Discussion: Slade Nagle named UH Offensive Coordinator

Any hire will be an improvement over Barbay. The DC position is going to make or break this program in 2025. For all of Wood’s weaknesses as a DC, it worked.

Don’t want to have a good offense and then a Belk defense again. Fritz needs to take his time and HIRE THE BEST!

Fritz is the Defense, not Wood.

So equal footing with their opponents and they ended up with a great record. Winning games is all that matters right now. We can focus on style points once we’re consistently ranked.

This is what he accomplished at Tulane. Let’s go I’m ready!!!

Under Nagle’s leadership, Tulane’s offense saw top finishes in the AAC for red zone offense, scoring offense and rushing offense, while ranking top five nationally for fewest interceptions. The tight ends also became a consistent target in the passing game under Nagle’s tutelage in 2022, while also playing a key role in blocking for Tulane’s rushing game, helping pave the way for an offense that totaled nearly 6,200 yards of total offense.

If the world had the same amount of energy CWF does, it would be a better place - this guy has more energy than most of us, I am confident he will turn things around for us and will produce winning football

Expect us to be active in the portal with QB and offensive talent

It is the attitude as well. Obstacles always come. Just got to find a way to overcome them.

According to @Pollardsvision, Nagle was still calling plays in 2022. Not sure if we have any way to confirm that.

We’re not talking about Slippery Rock. All these guys came out of the Little Green Engine.
Tulane under Willie and crew were hard to handle at any level. I associate quality with those guys

When hired by LSU, NOLA.com wrote:
“ Nagle also brings some experience as an offensive coordinator. Though he did not hold the title in 2022, he became the primary play-caller at the start of Tulane’s breakthrough 12-2 season.

Indeed, I expect our TE’s to be finally a key asset to our offense. Long overdue.

I felt the same about him turning us down the first time but from what I’ve read he became the interim HC when Fritz left Tulane. He was hoping to get the HC position but unfortunately he did not. Fritz couldn’t wait for the outcome and had to hire an OC. Hence the reason he went to LSU. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

Yes. After he didnt get the HC job at Tulane, he took the TE Coach job at LSU.

I saw that the Tx St guy went to Tech on a 3 year deal. Maybe that extra year was part of the issue with the DC’s contract, too?

Interesting

Why do people keep saying this? Fritz emphasizes the importance of detail on defense but he’s probably not staying up late and cutting film. Give Wood his credit.
