Discussion: Slade Nagle named UH Offensive Coordinator

It’s because most people are nincompoops.

Excellent pick. Glad Nagle saw the light. He needs to be Fritz’s right hand man. When Nagle ran Tulane’s offense, they moved the ball and had a big win in the Cotton Bowl.
Interesting how the Fritz’s guys are coming together. Naghavi and now Nagle. Fritz has a plan!

He still could have come here after Tulane hired Sumrall but didn’t. Would be interesting to know why.

Kid in school? That was Meacham’s excuse when Levine offered him in year one.

I wish we had him this year, strange he wanted to be a position coach but it was LSU

Maybe he’s just one of those Louisiana guys that doesn’t want to leave. We’re pretty far west for him. :slightly_smiling_face:

Made $400K base plus $100K in annual supplemental income. $25K relo and $15K for making bowl game. No severance fee since he’s assuming playcalling duties. Signed January 24, 2024.

At the time, media reported Nagle’s hiring as a grand slam. “Nagle will take over a talented tight end room in Death Valley that is coming off signing the nation’s No. 1 tight end prospect in Zachary High’s Trey’Dez Green. It’s another grand slam hire for Kelly as he rounds out his coaching staff. With Nagle on board, it gives this program a seasoned veteran who has experience as a play-caller.”

Nagle is Willie’s guy so he fits the identity of the team. Run first ball control offense & good defense. Not a flashy guy but let’s hope he can get the job done

“Whether calling plays or coaching tight ends, quarterbacks or special teams, Slade has excelled at all levels," Kelly said in a statement. “A native of Louisiana, he has a great recruiting knowledge of the state and is known for developing his position group.”

Nagle also brings some experience as an offensive coordinator. Though he did not hold the title in 2022, he became the primary play-caller at the start of Tulane’s breakthrough 12-2 season.

We dont know any of the background…his wife may have wanted to stay in Louisiana, who knows?? Since Fritz wanted him in the first place, it is reasonable to think he would get the job, eventually. and he did.

Main difference was not having this guy running ball in 2023

That and their QB was a stud, believe he even got benched for awhile and still was a stud

1,500 yard RB!

National search you say? The search barely made it across state lines.

Green had limited action for LSU this year but did show some promise when he did play.

LOL. Well, can’t argue with that

Now that UH has found its OC, let find some players to run his offense. On campus and off.

I actually like the hire. The only thing troubling in my eyes is that he turned us down once. Most coordinators don’t get selected as coach of their team. So, from my perspective, he opted not to come over based on a low probability outcome. I think he will do well here. I also think he’ll leave pretty quick. If he does that’s fine. Just work your #% off while you’re here.
