CFP Expansion

Have they released the details on auto bids?

Good question.

Now the P5 will breakaway from the NCAA leaving the G5 behind

The report from ESPN is that the autobids will go to the six highest ranked conference champions, which will usually be the five P5 conference champions, plus maybe one G5 conference champ.

The odds that those six will contain two G5 conference champions is close to zero, in my view.

That is what is great about this structure.

At least its all in front of a Texas Southern if they wanted to make that move however unlikely.

Agree but all that matters is that it COULD happen in this system.

When the breakaway happens, it won’t be “P5”.

The new structural inequality is now in place. It will cause an even greater maldistribution of money. Time will exacerbate the discrepancy and compound the effect.

I think the break away is several years away. Once all the realignment is done… After Big kills the Pac and the SEC kills the ACC, then you’ll see the breakaway. Not until then, I don’t think.

The propaganda needs time to ripen. There are those currently in who will be left out. That can’t and won’t happen overnight.

Yea. All the marks need to invest their trust in the system. Then it transitions to not include them.

SEC, BIG, ACC, Pac12, and Big 12 champs will make it almost every time.

The true debate will be which champ from the G5 conferences will make it.

That’s right. Or, perhaps includes them with an asterisk, which is what the current playoff expansion does…

It WILL include at least one G5 conference champ.

After the P5s are accounted for, there are only G5 conferences left to get the final auto bid.

I got that.

My point is that most (probably all) years…there will be only ONE G5 conference champ among the top six conference champs, not two or more.

And it’ll be rare to see more than one G5 team in the entire playoff.

Ah, I gotcha.

Totally agree

Not sure how you come up with that. The PAC is losing their biggest brands. Utah can easily hit the skids as USC did and as Clemson did. And they won’t have the strength of schedule to earn the ranking.

The Big 12 is best positioned after the SEC and Big, but the ACC is crap without Clemson. And the Pac 12 is crap, period.

Once realignment is finished, the Pac and ACC will be over too. That’s why expansion happened after SEC and Big took what they wanted.

We just need the B10 and SEC media apparatus to go to work with ESPN to create the narrative that only two conferences deserve to be in the top 25…strength of schedule and all, you know.

Once Big has Cal and Stanford and once the SEC takes Clemson, that’s exactly what you will see.

So the champions of the 6 highest-rated conferences get an auto bid, and then there are 6 at large bids that are given to the teams that didn’t win the championships but are rated the next highest in the CFP poll?

I’m expecting them to come up with some kind of moniker for the B12PAAC:

“The leeching 3” or the “L3”.

Yes
