Dana.

Due to his contract, Iā€™d have to go with Dana.

We should have learned something with the first coach named Dana. Iā€™m seeing a patternā€¦

Letā€™s open it up, is he better than Heltonā€¦ at least better than Dimel. What a low bar he has set

CDH and it is not even nearly debatable at this point. The man has been given EVERYTHING compared to the other 2 - time, $, facilities, a P5 conference, backing of admin including the shot caller billionaire, etcā€¦ and he has completely squandered it.

Worse, once he is inevitably fired, his refusal to recruit quality HS kids at a reasonable rate will result in whatever dearth of talent we supposedly had from Apple looking like CDH walked into Alabama level talent when he got here in 2019. It is going to take a couple years to clean up the mess CDH has us in especially with few to no ā€œgimmesā€ on the schedule anymore.

The only real question is which Dana has been the worst coach weā€™ve had in almost 40 years? Dimel or Holgorsen? Iā€™d lean Dimel but if CDH and Feritta ram through another couple trash seasons on us like this one then Holgy might be the blue ribbon winner as the worst football coach UH has ever had.

All this makes no mention of things off the field, like ā€œcanā€™t coach this ****ā€, ā€œjust compete not winā€, constant excuses and deflections, etcā€¦

For the Apple haters, not saying he was good per se, but what did he do in less than 3 years that has no comparable analog to anything negative CDH has done? Iā€™d like to hear it. Facts please.

Oh Applewhite.

Dana had a Top 20 finish and 12 win team, unlike the other two, playing in the same league, so it canā€™t be him.

Levine had lots of incomprehensible defeats, but at least he could recruit.

That leaves Applewhite, who embarrassed himself on TV with Oliver, and got humiliated in a bowl game.

Iā€™d say Applewhite was the worst, given that.

Yes.

Dana. For apathy generally in the program. Applewhite had more program interest.

I hated Applewhite too with the hiring of Dā€™Onofrio but he never won a bowl game.

But if Belk keeps up with this pathetic coaching, I will put Dā€™Onofrio above him lol.

Less success though.

No bowl victories.

Bowl humiliation.

No ranked finish.

No 12 win season, despite playing in the same league.

Definitely Applewhite.

Doesnā€™t mean Dana was necessarily good.

But he was comparatively less bad.

Law,
Hypothetical. I get the 2021 season being ranked and getting 12 wins and that was great and all. However, letā€™s say CDH gets 2 more years and he goes 4-8 in 2024 and 5-7 in 2025 and has a sub .500 record after 7 years and 5 losing seasons in 7. Will you still consider Apple worse than CDH? At some point you have to consider overall body of work and canā€™t continue to primarily hold onto one counter point, albeit a strong one, right? So my question to you is what point are you willing to allow a growing avalanche of negative results to trump 1 really positive result or are you dead set that CDH can never have a worse tenure than Apple?

Applewhite, but Dana is closing in fast

Itā€™s Dana when you consider the fact that heā€™s capable of being better but his bad habits & laziness will do him in

If Dana loses this weekend and then canā€™t turn it around next season, I might pick him last.

But not yet.

Weā€™ll see.

Some facts regarding Appleā€™s tenure in the 2017-2018 seasons:

We still averaged something close to 30K fans in those years (albeit a lot of credit should go to momentum from Herman years). CDH didnā€™t bring us 30K until this year really and averaged closer to 25K prior to this year.

Overall Record: 15-10 with 2 winning seasons (7-5 in 2017 and 8-5 in 2018)

2017 season we lost to: TT (P5), 2 win Tulsa (oof!), ranked Memphis, 5 win Tulane (oof but less than Tulsa), and a 10 win Fresno in our bowl game by 6 points. We beat Rice, ehhhmm, Arizona (P5), and a ranked USF. Other than the terrible Tulsa loss, and maybe Tulane Iā€™d say it was a pretty solid season actually.

2018 season we started 7-1 and were ranked nearly in the top 15. GREAT start right? Then we lost 3 of 4 to finish conference play but 2 of those, Temple and Memphis ended with winning seasons. SMU loss blew though. Army, yeah that stunk, but I donā€™t ever recall having that many injuries during a bowl game and it just snowballed us plus we already were 8-4 and locked into a solid season. 8-5 or 9-4, neither would leave us ranked in the end so ehhh yeah sucks to lose that bad but did it really matter that much at that point all things considered?

BTW, our worst losses under Apple, the 2017 loss to Tulsa and 2018 loss to SMU were on the road though at least.

Apple went 9-3 at home in his 2 years. You could generally count on him to bring home a W at homeā€¦it was worth going. CDH, in 5 years, is 14-15 at home and if you take away the abberation season in 2021, then his ā€˜typical seasonā€™ home record is: 9-14 - sub .500!!! Bottom line with fans not on the wagon and him losing so much at home it makes for a miserable experience in the stands during the CDH tenure. Heck even Levine was 14-8 at home in his 3 years. Perhaps one of CDHā€™s greatest sins is he canā€™t be counted on to win us most of our home games and this really leaves a sour taste in fans mouths when theyā€™ve invested years of time and $ to see at best coin-flip football.

I just donā€™t buy Apple being the worse but thatā€™s me.
