Applewhite had K. Briles which was more exciting than anything Dana has put on the field.
They both had regrettable defenses.
Levine has been purged from memory being such a good guy and serving a great chicken sandwich.

If he were to play Ward from the stadium opener and throughout the 2014 season, we could have won at least 9 games and thus Herman not being hired here.
Applewhite was worst overall
Applewhite - pissed off Ed Oliver and hired a DC from YMCA.
I donât know about that but I donât recall DâOnofrio giving up multiple 4th and longs like Belk did.
We wouldâve been better in 2019 under Applewhite than Dana. Feel pretty good about that. Whoâs been worse overall is hard to say. Danaâs only somewhat decent year came on the weakest schedule we had while playing in the American. I think when you factor in the salary it has to be Dana.
Getting good coordinators is one of, if not the most important things a HC has to do. If Levine hired a quality OC in 2014, he might still be coaching here. CDH should have fired Belk after last season and a better DC probably gets us to 6-6. Donât forget that Applewhite would have been on OC number 3 too. I had no faith that he gets two hires correct and glad he was fired.
I pretty much give Levine a pass for being a great human and recruiting so many studs.
With Applewhite it always felt like we hovered right above average. We knew what we were and almost always performed as such. Didnât blame him for Jacketgate, but that Army bowl game would have been tough to come back from.
CDH teams are just a wildcard. We underperform for what we think we have on the roster. Occasionally look like a really good team. Occasionally look like we showed up prior to kickoff with no plan whatsoever.
Just noticing that no one thinks CTL is the worst. That kind of consensus is hard around these parts.
Just saying and thatâs all Iâm going to say about that.
This is like asking which wrist do you want me to slit?
The 2018 schedule was very similar to 2021. We missed the two best teams, UCF & Cincy. Best win was over 7-6 Tulane. Difference was that in 2018 we finished 8-5 and were straight embarrassed in multiple games. I donât think Applewhite would have ever been anything but average. The 2017 team was still stacked with talent and ended up with 7 wins (including a blow out loss to 2 win Tulsa). So if 12-2 in 2021 is only âsomewhat decentâ then both Applewhiteâs seasons were terrible. If Dana goes 3-9 or 4-8 next year, I might say they are equal. Hopefully he isnât here for that to happen.
I also think Levine shouldnât even be in the discussion. He set up UH for future success. Without Levine, we donât have a stacked roster for 2015 and 2016.
Iâm happy weâve got all these years to conduct our psychosomatic experiment.
Respectfully disagree Law. Dana is worse for the program.
Your fears will come true. UCF will punch us in the face unrelentingly.
Meaning repeatedly. But donât overreact. UCF is a B12 program
Why are people thinking Applewhite is worse that DanaâŠand I was No Applewhite fan but worse than Dana?..no way.
Dana has more resources, more money, more coaching pool money, a power conference, and upgraded/new facilitiesâŠand yet still has MORE excuses to why he is horrible.
Unlike Applewhite, Dana is a mediocre HC, at best, that somehow manages to continue to land HC jobs.
Or ârelentlesslyâ or ârepeatedlyâ. lol. Yes, the Big 12 is hard as we know.
Couldnât agree more.
Ahead of the curve w his offense 10 + years ago but washed up now.
Stlll has a good eye for WRs but seems lost as a talent evaluator everywhere else.
Add the unprofessional, childish, and a few times flat out crackpot interactions when dealing with the media and he is awful.
Running the clock 2 not get blown out in many games just adds 2 the fun.
Worth a repost.
Well I think the biggest difference was that in 2021 we played a 1-11 UConn instead of a 5-7 Arizona. 2018 was a tougher schedule though neither were great. Applewhite wouldâve had a 10 win season in 2019. Instead we got a 4 win cluster f**k with Dana. Doesnât mean Dana isnât a marginally better coach than Major but when you factor in the fact that his salary is twice as high, I think you have to say heâs done a worse job.
