9:10 start
Coogs definitely not intimidated. Lead 11-4 in the first set - forcing the Cardinal to call a time out
One can see why the Cardinal is so highly regarded. Coogs down 1 set to none
Coogs were up 21-13.
You can not blow away a lead like the Coogs did. It also garbage by ESPN when Stanford has home court advantage to have commentators are basically the team commentators for Stanford. The lady commentator is getting downright annoying on her complete bias towards Stanford.
Oh ok, lady commentator basically in second set just said Coogs did good in first set but it all over now and Stanford wins.
Good season for them
Tremendous season for the Coogs. I have been surprised how much I enjoyed following this team. My own subjective preference will always be menâs basketball, but Coach Rehr and crew have won me and my grandkids.
8 teams went further than Houston. Another 8 went as far. 328 teams didnât. They had a great season. I hope Rehr makes NCAA post-season play a regular thing like Bill Walton did in the 1990âs.
Great season. Enjoyed it very much!
But Iâve noticed that we have to get bigger. Stanford is huge. Tough to block someone four to six inches taller than you and is still athletic.
Our game plan was awesome. Totally caught Stanford off guard. Then they asjusted and itâs hard to compete against 6â7â and 6â5â with 6 foot blockers.
But we fought. Couldâve easily lost 25-10 type sets but we didnât.
The Ladies were amazing. Time for our some of of our other teams to take note on how how to play with heart a desire. I guess its time for me to do my part and get my seat into the stands for some of their games next year too.
Coogs
We are losing a lot of good players, hope we can replace them, hopefully recruiting picks up, the elite players want to play at that cow school in Austin
Big 12 should help recruiting.
FWIW, given my lack of knowledge about volleyball, I get the impression that the sport, at the collegiate level, is dominated by the so called P5 schools. UH has marvelous players, but, like someone else noted, Stanford, for example, has some very tall players and that height seems to pay dividends.
My hope is that between Coach Rehr (and staff) who seem to know what they are doing and the move to the Big 12 (and maybe Coach Sampson can throw his Fertitta Center mates a bone in facility upgrades) UH can continue its upward trajectory. I would think the Greater Houston area a hotbed of potential players.
Regardless, it is great to have another Coog squad that is such fun to follow. I can hope Coach Whitting went to a few games and took notes.
Agree. I have learned a lot about VB this year and believe we are in a good place. As the season went on, became very impressed with Coach Rehrâs ability to game plan and his ability to make in-match adjustments. (based on my limited knowledge). Plus, the players were having fun! In person, you could really see how the players respected him and the rest of the staff. Next year will be a challenge, but the trajectory looks very good.
Yeah Stanford had height by the net a lot. No reason we canât recruit better in the big12 and volleyball is fun to watch. Iâm gonna try and see a game or 2 in person at UH next yr. I donât understand the rules bc every time the ball went out of bounds from my point of view there was a point scored which it seems shouldnât be but again I donât understand the game totally like net violation etc. Itâs fun to watch and can be big time here to watch in person going forward. That tall Stanford girl at 6â5â killed us that they kept focusing on
The rules are a bit complex, or it is just me getting easily confused. I do think they changed the rules a while back to award a point on every play, to speed the game.
You are correct that when the rotation worked out that Kendall Kipp moved to what seemed her favorite hitting position she posed - err - a spot of bother.
Yes. There used to be points only when you won on service. Otherwise it was a side out.
I think itâs called rally scoring now or something like that. Speeds the game up.
