They used side-out scoring (only the serving team scored) to 15 points, through the 2000 season. If a match went to a 5th game, that was played with rally scoring. I still prefer side-out scoring because of the more realistic possibility of a perfect game (a shutout). The Cougars came close to that with a 15-1 game 1 win over Clemson during the 1994 NCAA second round at Hofheinz Pavilion. In 2001 they switched to rally scoring, 30 points/15 points in game 5. 2008 was when they went to 25 points/15 points in game 5. Another change for 2001 that I do like was that a served ball could now tip the net. Before that, it would have been a service error. I think it adds excitement to the game when a serve that is headed deep, hits the net, rolls over and drops just past the net. You see some great plays made defending that.
thanks for your post - nice to have someone so knowledgeable.
I believe that Jackson, Tullos and the libero are back next year to form a good nucleus with which Coach Rehr can continue to build around and have a competitive team
I was pleased they were honored at the game yesterday and at the reception they received.
Joseph Duarte reports this evening that UH and Coach Rehr are working toward a contract extension. Apparently next year marks the final year of his current contract. I, for one, will be glad to have Coach Rehr reupped.Houston volleyball: David Rehr contract extension in the works
Rumor is that having to fend off the aggies to keep Rehr.
I hope we fend well.
Should be interesting, I dont know what he end goal is but the last A&M coach was making $400-500k.
Does anyone know what Rehr is making currently?
I have no idea of even the ballpark of the dollar figures or how the UH athletic department could calculate the economics of investment versus return. I am hoping that there are lots of Houston specific intangibles that Coach Rehr finds attractive, because when it comes to throwing money at athletics A&M has few peers.
They already took the womenâs golf coach a while back.
Looks like A&M went off the wall and hired a former USAV and club coach who was has never been a head coach in college. Word is they didnt even inquire about Rehr or even Volpe at Rice which seems odd.
Thanks for the news.
Any more info here?
I see she is from Klein and went to Louisville four years and will play here as a grad student. Good for the volleyball team
Found thisâŠâŠ
2021: (pronounced NEN-UH em-BON-oo) Nena played in 31 sets, recorded 44 ills, 10 digs and nine blocks. She had a season-high 9 kills versus Northern Kentucky. She hit .750 (6-0-8) versus Boston College She tied a career-high with three digs versus Purdue and recorded two blocks versus TAMU-CC, Missouri, and Notre Dame. She was named to the ACC All-Academic squad.
FWIW, Louisville is a top program.
Ranked #2 most of the year - and lost in the tourney finals to UT - yeah Louisville was loaded -
I would think a number of potential grad students might opt for this chance to take advantage of the Houston academic programs and connections - and still get in one more season - especially if the programâs trajectory continues of its steep upward angle.
