We have plenty of those in Roberts, Tugler, Lath & McFarland to rotate.
Slow 7 footers who just rebound and block shots are dime in a dozen. You can’t really start them unless they’re like Sanogo very skilled or/and start hitting threes.
Look at Miami who just beat us… They had a 6’6 burly guy for a center and beat UH who were taller in the middle.
Centers like the one you’re talking about need to be develop over time or are staying in the draft most likely.
It’s really hilarious to read some of the comments from a few know-it-alls on here about what UH NEEDS to do…implying that CKS doesn’t seem to get it (paraphrasing)…HILARIOUS!
As for me, I’ll ride with CKS. Several more years of Top 10 finishes for UH hoops is unprecedented…and speaks for itself…
Miami packed the middle when we were on offense. It wasn’t just one guy in the middle fighting for boards.
Our losses under Coach Sampson pretty much follow the same scenario. Other team gets hot from three and our offense stumbles.

I was just pointing out that you dont need a slow 7 footer just for the sake of having one. You can still win without one. I mean if hes good great! But those arent just realistically possible since theyre few and in between.
The end of the world is not nigh should we not get any particular recruit from the portal. So long as we fill our targeted needs, all is well. Sure would like a big, though. Seeing us play with Carlton was fun.
This board tends to pick ideas and run way too far with them.
Miami didn’t expose us in the middle because quite frankly their big wasn’t anything special. Something was going on with Roberts the last few weeks of the season. He wasn’t the same.
I said this before the game, I felt we needed to play small against Miami and I think that’s how it played out. I felt our starting line it could match and work an advantage with Jarace vs Thomas but I was concerned with rotating Chaney or Francis as secondary bigs.
After the staters I think we needed TA at the 4 rotating Roberts and Walker in the middle.
As it turns out I don’t think any matchups were going to save us that game. Sasser and Shead were not the same and Miami played at a very high level.
That Miami team proved themselves the next game when they didn’t shoot a lot of threes but still shot 60%.
We just lost to a team playing better and have no reason to hold our heads down and be disappointed. I hat we are doing is working so trust the process.
I know there aren’t a lot of bigs out there to snag. I mean to say a guy that plays like a center. He could be 6-9, but its the scoring down low that we need. Too many people think we need to pull the post out to clear the lane for the guards. That’s NBA. It’s the opposite. We need someone who can score down low to open up the outside for the guards. Most bigs in college have low percentages from outside. Why take a low percentage shot and find a way to make even lower? He was born big for a reason: to bounce it off people’s heads underneath.
