I like Mylick as a reserve because he would be the backup pg.
I think losing Shead against Duke proves we need at least a capable backup.
I have heard good things about the Jefferson kid, but doesn’t he project as a two guard?
Father is a legacy UNLV player.
Lath is here. Plus she loves and trusts Coach and the staff to take care of her son and grow/develop him into manhood…on and off the court. We really have a family environment/culture. It’s intentional. Listen to the players. It’s a true brotherhood. Even with former players. Sampson makes sure that former players have locker space when they come back to hang out. You can’t fake what we have in the building.
As I told the UNLV board, Sampson has instilled a culture that our players don’t just play TOGETHER, but play FOR EACH other. That’s why you see how connected they are defensively. And you see when there’s a slip up on a backdoor cut, or an easy layup/dunk, the player who made the mistake is pointed at immediately by one of the other players on what he should’ve done. Can’t do that if accountability isn’t first and foremost.
And lastly, them kids KNOW that Coach(and the whole staff) loves them. So visiting parents see that. You can’t fake that sincerity. If Mama Tina gets a chance to call Shead’s mom, Sasser’s mom, Fabian’s mom, etc…what you think they gon’ tell her?
Nate
Come on, now. They paid him to go there.
If that is truly our front court I can see why the rumors that TA would portal started.
@bigmccoog unfortunately we can’t pencil in Mylik as a backup point.
According to his mom, he never played point in high school.
So, hes a SG. That doesn’t shoot 3s
I think you give backup point role to either Sharp or Mercy.
Sharps only 6’3". If he wants to reach the NBA, he’ll have to transform into a PBH
Defensive juggernaut. McFarland won’t be a project next year…
Yeah that’s probably right but he did spell for Shead some and did a better job of distributing than the others.
Now assure me Jefferson is a point guard and I will feel a lot better.
Wilson is a veteran who really helped us down the stretch this past year and he knows our culture.
If he moves on I fully understand. But I will still be concerned about a backup pg
Sharp I could see next year because of his improvements this year and continued improvement going into next year. His handles really improved a little bit this year. I think he’ll have an even tighter handle next year and develop into that upperclassmen leader.
But I’m not sure about Mercy. His handles were weak when I saw him play. He had some butterfingers and was a little loose with the ball sometimes. I think KJ will be more of a backup point next year. He got to play some point in High School and has underrated vision. I think he could have that underrated redshirt syndrome. Since he came in as a freshman and did not play no one is really talking about him. Just like sharp. Last year all we heard from the media was Arceneaux and Jarace. I’m not comparing him to sharp just saying he may be underrated here.
Go tell that to Coach then, and his belief in developing his bigs.
Lath ain’t leaving with Dedan(step brother) coming. McFarland damn sure isn’t leaving. Shead’s spot is a wash(Dedan).
But that’s right. You were gung-ho on wanting Malcolm Dandridge’s sorry arse here last summer.
Coach Kelvin Sampson quote : “The most overrated stat in basketball is height.”
Again, the players I listed in the previous post are NOT gonna be shown the door like you’re quick to do each off season, so break down the 13 ships and stop deflecting, Liam McNeeley ain’t coming here. Joshua Jefferson will be here if TA or LJ doesn’t return…IMO.
Nate
I think you have to pencil in Sharp as a starter
McFarland, coach has said great things about him. So hes projected backup 5
In my head, i think Mylik is probably leaving.
Lj, Roberts & Arceneaux are the 3 wildcards.
Mcneeley is giving me Derik Queen vibes. We’re in his top 4, but are we really closing the deal with him? He probably wants legit NIL & a solid role guaranteed to him
I would like to see Arcenueax back. Im a little concerned about his career, if he transfers out
I would rather have McFarland then any big in the portal
Precisely right about LJ, J’Wan, TA. I’m hoping Big Perk talked the TA camp off the ledge cuz I want him to get drafted showing HOUSTON on the screen.
Nate
I think it takes around 3 days from the time the office fax the papers but i may be wrong.
This a national championship.
That’s my hope. I for some reason expect McFarland to have impact…maybe with some outside shooting with height.
If what I’m being told is true then McFarland will fit right into the lineup. And next year’s team will be similar to this past year but better.
How much he weights now ?
Btw… I have a feeling were adding more than a pg in the transfer portal. Well have a player or two hit the portal as well. Coach having individual player meetings.
Yes, hopeful about MCFARLAND.
Surprising to me that so many “dream lineups” in this thead don’t even mention his name
