Tom Herman FIRED

Let’s get real guys, Tom Herman is a has been dud. He was lucky here with Tony’s recruits, he couldn’t cut it at UT with every possible resource and advantage available.

10 schools in the American have scored more points than FAU this year. That’s not what our offense needs. He has earned his present situation and I am happy for him. Yes I know that’s mean, couldn’t help myself.

He inherited a talented roster yes, but he was able to win games with said roster, something Levine wasn’t able to do. Even Applewhite was left with some talent, and he couldn’t do it without the help of Kendal Briles.

Herman also recruited his own talented players from the momentum he established from 2015, such as Ed Oliver, D’Eriq King, Kyle Allen and Marquez Stevenson amongst others.

Did he get lucky? Yes he did. Did he win games? Yes he did.

Was he in over his head thinking he could do the same thing at UT? Probably.

FAU in my opinion was not a good fit for Herman. That job was desperation for both parties. A coach that needed a job, and a school that thought a former P5/P6 head coach could dominant again. He probably used his success at Houston in his interviews.

Herman had a chance to be a legend at UH, so long as he kept the momentum and recruiting pipeline.

He had something here, and he dumped up for UT, for which, hey…. I honestly can’t blame him. It’s the way he did it that makes me mad.

I’ve often wondered about this: if there only are about 120 D1 head coaching jobs available, for most schools it should be a buyer’s market, not a seller’s market. And yet, schools all over have allowed agents to convince them that they need to structure contracts in this way in order to find coaches.

Yes that is quite curious. Ego and getting something a rival might want plays into it. That and some alumni with more money than they know what to do with it. Ya hear that aTm.

Tom Herman FIRED makes me smile. It couldn’t have happened to a better douche.

He quit here, he didn’t get anything from us, we got 2M from UT.

It’s not that he quit but how he went about doing it (and sh!tt!ng on the very people who gave him his 1st head coaching opportunity).

What???

Herman fired DC Roc Bellantoni last week and when Herman got fired, the interim head coach brought back Bellantoni as DC to finish the season. Very unusual.

I’m in no way a Tom Herman fan but the magnitude of schadenfreude is almost absurd.

Herman actually did quite well at UTA by most standards with the exception of those at UT or A&M (who both have done absolutely nothing given their unlimited resources) - he was 32-18, ranked 3 out of 4 seasons, and was 4-0 in bowl games including the Sugar Bowl. We would be on Cloud 9 with those results.

Want revenge? Ignore him.

I am not a believer that he would have been able to develop recruiting classes if he stayed here. I think the guy could be an excellent offensive coordinator however

With one of those bowl wins vs Kirby Smart’s UGA.

Its much more fun to point at him and laugh now

He signed Oliver, but he didn’t recruit him. Levines staff did that recruiting.

UT has a recruiting base that we dream of they can basically walk into any home in the state and have a chance to sign a player. The ceiling for UT is competing for national titles and Herman didn’t even win the Big 12 in his tenure. The issues with recruiting would have caught up with him eventually especially when the rumors of him leaving would pop up anytime we had a big win.

Left us 8 years ago. Collected some big paychecks along the way. And yet he’s still getting millions from us. Threads on CoogFans that is

I can actually see him coming in as an OC.

I made an earlier hot take prediction:

Applewhite (and now Herman to a much lesser extent) gets hired back at Houston as a P5 OC. They get that veteran coaching work under Willie and are the de facto, unofficial, unnamed HCIW. Unless, like the Sampson clause, they get a job they can’t refuse at that point and go and take it. Either that, or they prime up and turn into the HC they’ve always been destined to be.

I would NOT be surprised if we see Applewhite or Herman back on Cullen Blvd. I absolutely wouldn’t, and heck with Willie, I’d support it.
