I’m so glad. Now, I never want to see his name again, until the next time he gets fired.
Then you would only have unproven high school coaches looking to join your team…
Or maybe Tom Herman…
Then you would only have unproven high school coaches looking to join your team…
I’ve been a proponent of having some of these unproven coaches from H.S. come here–from North Shore, Katy, and others that seem to do o.k. with them.
The dude that does these videos is very cringe worthy
I’m not recalling any Houston area HS head coach that has moved directly to being a P4 head coach. If there were ever any such person, could you refresh my memory?
I’ve never heard, or don’t recall(maybe blocked it out), that we pay Herman after he quit here.
Didn’t UT pay us something for stealing him?
Edit: Yes…
“In 2016, Houston offered to reduce Herman’s buyout in exchange for a home-and-home football and basketball series with Texas. However, Texas declined the offer and paid the full $2.5 million buyout.”
We are not paying that guy squat.
Ha, it was just a bad joke. I just meant we are still paying him in the currency of countless threads here on CoogFans mentioning his name. Although, it seems more people are enjoying his failures now in recent weeks
UT is pussycat
You sure about that?
I know Tony recruited his brother Marcus, but Ed was all Herman. They also hired Ed’s high school DLine coach.
Good? He isnt good. He got fired at Texas for not winning enough. He got fired at FAU for a 2 year disaster. He’s still young and i am sure wants to coach, but you only get so many chances. He needs to drop back to being an assistant after being an HC for almost 10 years…That is as bad as it gets.
He and Sumlin point out something that I truly believe which is it isn’t miraculous to win at Houston. Pre NIL we had resources to compete at the AAC and CUSA level.
The fact of the matter is historically we have underperformed vis a vis our conference mates given our resources.
Briles did an amazing job here. We were on life support pre Briles.
Sumlin did a pretty good job.
Levine did an excellent job from a program standpoint and grossly underperformed on the field because of bad coaching and QB decisions.
Herman won. Could have been legendary here because we bought his BS. It worked here.
Applewhite. I honestly don’t know what to make of Major. Bland as all get out and the team had no heart. The Army game???
Dana- F Dana, he took us and didn’t give a crap.
Willie - we aren’t back to Briles because I don’t think we will ever be as cutting edge offensively as we were under Briles. We are back to Pardee.
When I said “he’s good” I mean it from a financial standpoint (unless he’s burned through his $). I would assume he’s pretty set. If anything, I’d take a year off and relax if I were him.
He could take about 30 years off and still fly first class to each and every Ritz Carlton Resort in the world… EVERY YEAR!!!
Their parents wanted them to be at same school.
Herman has money, but for most coaches, it is championships and respect among their peers that drive them. Herman has a national championship ring from Ohio St., but it was Urban Meyer leading the program. The only championship Herman has won as head coach was the AAC Championship at Houston, which doesn’t carry much weight with P4s or the national media. I do not know what Herman’s peers think about him, but UH fans thought the way he left UH was unprofessional, and UT fans couldn’t wait to get rid of him.
One conference championship banner hangs at TDECU. It belongs to a team coached by Tom Herman. Last one in almost a decade by Houston football.
Hate on the man, laugh at the man for being fired.
One thing you can’t take from him is, he and his team were champions here and that banner stares at you every time you walk into the stadium.
Hmmmm…
Kim Helton won a conference title here too (1996). No one can take that away from him, but by the same token, few people here have fond memories of the guy.
It ain’t all about winning a conference title.
The way Herman left here largely put our fanbase off and has prevented us from speaking well of him since.
To be fair, Antowain Smith should get 90% of the credit for that title.
Yeah. Only reason he came here was due to his brother being here. Otherwise he would have gone to LSU.
