I saw a UT alum or fan say “now everybody is going to think we bully the refs”
I could not help respond with “I hate to break it to you, but everyone has thought yal payed the refs since the 1970s”. AND BOY did the personal insults start to fly, holy f does that fanbase lack humility.
Not only that, for a school that acts superior to everyone else like they are Ole Miss Southern Royalty + MIT + Harvard law + and John Hopkins medical school rolled up into one, they sure do get insecure when you mention you are a University of Houston alum.
*disclaimer, I aint trolled a fanbase online in a solid 9 years, but that was just too rich
Seen a few football games in my time, but never, ever saw a ref’s call be changed the way it happened in that game. Cows coach throws a fit, fans(?) throw bottles, hundred cow supporters run out and kick bottles off field, refs panic and reassemble in a little pile, then one peeks out and states the initial call is being reversed and ball goes to the cows. Cows score from close in…Dogs coach objects and is totally ignored. But that’s Austin–we’ve been there.
Why wouldn’t other fanbases think this is the way to act at home. The refs rewarded the behavior. Fans delayed the game, got a non review-able call overturned and didn’t receive a penalty for throwing trash on the field. Great precedent
The call was horrible and needed to be overturned regardless of their idiot students.
What bothered me most were the targeting calls.
So are running backs and receivers taught to lower their heads to initiate helmet to helmet action?
The rule has gotten completely out of hand.
The call was non reviewable. Regardless of if it was a bad call, it should not have been overturned. Do you know what should have been reviewed and overturned? The botched call in UT- UH game last season that the ut grad didn’t get reviewed.
Yeah, the debate over whether it was the right call doesn’t matter. It wasn’t, but they had a chance to discuss it before making the call, and stuck with it, which is the end of the debate if the rules are followed.
Changing it after the fact was definitely the wrong call, and that’s not even a matter of judgment.
Oh, UT will get away with it. First, $250,000 is just pocket change to UT athletics. Last year they reported operating income of $271 million.
Second, no one associated with UT football ever actually gets punished for doing anything unlawful in Travis County, where all of the local judges are graduates of UT and most of the criminal defense attorneys are UT law school graduates. There is a list of UT football players who got arrested for all sorts of things and never spend any time in jail. Cedric Benson, T’Vondre Sweat, Kendall Sanders, Montrel Meander, Edwin Simmons, and UT special teams’ coach Jeff Banks’ stripper girlfriend’s pet monkey are just some examples.
“In the front console of the car, deputies found a live .40-caliber round of ammunition and in the back, a large quantity of marijuana”, Homie was hitting licks well before NIL
I made a bad comparison and deleted it, I started to compare him to Javin Webb, who had a ton of potential for UH, but Ramonce was a special special player
“Texas should be thrown out of SEC. We all know their egomaniac fan base would explode and humiliate the conference. That’s why everyone hates these a-holes… Nobody wants these jerks in their conference:. Please go away.”
"The sooner the whole conference recognizes the bull**** that Texas brings with them, the sooner the other ADs can apply whatever pressure necessary to get sankey in check. If it’s at all possible.
If it wasn’t for the fact that an eventual B1G/SEC merger was imminent, I would say that they’re going to ruin this conference. It just may not last long enough for them to do it."
The play was not reviewed. However, it was overturned. This happens often. How many times have you seen a flag thrown, the refs come together to discuss the call, and the ref announces “there is no penalty for ______.”
The unfortunate thing is the poor conduct by UT fans gave the refs more time to discuss and got intimidated to change the call, even if it was the right thing to do.
The good news in all of this, is that Texas still lost.
hot take, it kind of was pass interference… you can let the receiver make contact beyond 5 yards, but the UT corner extended his arms to jam 15 yards deep. Watch it again
Or Texas Texas Trch when Raider fans trashed Agy and Whorn at home basketball games.
But frankly I haven’t ever seen the amount of trash Austin accumulated Saturday
