Losing your OC and DC, one fired and one by choice, sets UH’s rebuild back at least one year. You can argue that the offense needed a complete overhaul and most everyone would agree, but losing the DC really sets UH back, after a promising season. We will see the complete fallout from the staff changes in the next couple of weeks, when we see which players hit the transfer portal.
The good news is Fritz is a seasoned head coach and has a lot of contacts. Fritz will not get caught flat footed.
All you suddenly posting about losing the DC as last straw were never supportive of Fritz in first place. Also there those who just spout negativity. Never something of substance but just stop bye to post garbage. Have to ask are you really UH fans? Because all some of you do is bash the Coogs.
Eh. We’ll see how it goes. He was a good DC, of which there are plenty out there. It’s an easy-come, easy-go position anyway.
With a few rare exceptions, non-Head coaches last a maximum of about two years before they’re either promoted, hired elsewhere, or fired. If our long-term success depended on Wood sticking around, we were set up for failure from the jump. He won’t be a lifer at Tech, either.
Hiring and firing coordinators is arguably the biggest part of CWF’s job. He’ll either make a solid replacement hire or we’ll be paying his buyout in two years. Either way, though, this shouldn’t really affect anyone’s perception of his performance.
A Tech fan on another site pointed out that the last coach they hired from us was David Gibbs, who we were also in love with. How’d that wind up working out for the parties involved?
Hate to lose Shiel, folks need to remember CWF is defensive minded coach everywhere he’s coached he’s had stout defenses regardless of the DC going or coming in. That CWF MO. Great D’s and didn’t have Shiel with those other teams and great D’s he was HC of… Not worried.
