I scrolled every SMU topic in the bball board I posted about and I dont see anything where I said that. im a die hard fan of all my sports teams (astros, rockets, texans and UH), and I support them equally, well minus the texans cause they are a crappy organization. Last time i checked this is a UH message board so hence my name.

I live and die with the rockets. astros too. iâll watch the first part of the UH/SMU game then Iâm tuning in to see the rockets vs the clippers.

Iâm a die hard of all my sports teams and the game vs SMU isnât important. LOL. Our next important game is when we play in the conference tourney.
Kind of diminishes the term âdiehardâ when you say it for everything. Iâll say it again, if you think the first half of a Rockets conference game (out of 52 games) is more important than the second half of a Cougars conference game (out of 18 games) then you arenât a diehard Cougar basketball fan.
If you were going to miss the first half of the Cougar game to see the ending of the Rockets game, a little more forgivable.
so i cant do both? lol. you do realize just because you miss a half of a game for your team you can still be a die hard fan right? If UH football somehow plays the same time as a playoff astros game guess which game Iâm watching? ok then.
So hypothetical⊠we have a great year this year. Defense is about the same as last year, above average to good. But the offense goes from below average to great. We win 10+ games. Win at least our division and maybe the conference. Top 25 ranking.
Briles leaves after that. Maybe P5 OC. Maybe even head coach somewhere. CMA hires a new OC. Defense stays solid. Offense drops back down to average and record drops to 7-5.
What % of success do you give CMA for the great season? Make it generic if you want. Not UH. Not CMA/Briles. So weâve removed our biases and prejudices. Who deserves most of the credit for the great season? The HC who is average at best without that OC or the OC of the only successful team?
Just look at Levine in the PSU bowl game. No one here gives Levine credit for winning that game although he was head coach. They give it to Kingsury as OC
Should be equal to the % of success any Coog would give Herman if UT has a great year this year, Olrando leaves and UT goes back to mediocre the next year. But it wonât be.
Another thing to think about. If the defense plays just the same as last year, the offense plays much better and then the Coogs play in the conference championship game, what % of credit will the defense get?
Depends on what % of success you give to a HC for hiring the right person. The HC has a philosophy that gets implemented by the assistants, but a good HC hires good assistants who will implement his philosophy and then trusts that decision and stays out of the way, only stepping in when the assistants stray from the philosophy.
So, if the reason for success boils down to a dramatic increase in offense while everything else stays relatively status quo, the HC deserves credit for having the philosophy and hiring the right person to implement it and the OC and other assistants deserve credit for implementing. However, I have no idea how you put actual percentages on that.
Ah, but in that scenario, you are replying to ⊠Applewhite then apparently hired (not great) OCs two out of three times.
In @NTXCoogâs hypothetical, yes. But we havenât gotten there yet. If NXTâs hypo plays out, I will join the chorus of boos for CMA. If you screw the pooch on 2 out of 3 OC hires, being a HC is not the gig for you.
The defense was pretty good in that game. The only credit I gave Sumlin was for him leaving all coaches in place.
Briles and Herman⊠not so much !!
That is why I consider those bowl loses to be theirs !!
We also had Case on the field for that game and a bunch of pissed off seniors who wanted to get that bad taste out of their mouths from the Championship game.
UNT was brought up by NTXCoog. NTXâŠUNT, do you see some connection here? NTXCoog is convinced that UNT is better than UH. He also doesnât like our coach, and will close his ears to anything that doesnât support his dislike. That kind of thing happens. But I am with Sam Houston, I will always publicly support our coach for as long as he is our coach â whether or not I think he should be replaced. What good does it do to publicly undermine him? It doesnât help team morale. It doesnât help recruiting. And it doesnât help the overall atmosphere. On the other hand, rallying around a coach can sometimes create an environment that helps the team rise above itâs previous performance.
I sometimes wonder if there are people on our boards that would rather CMA go 0-12 so he would be fired than they would for him to go 9-3 because he wouldnât be. Well, I think he will prove to be a very good coach for us.
The Coogs, right?
Iâm not just a UH coogs basketball/football fan. i have other sports interests such as MLB, NBA AND NFL. Iâm a die hard fan of the Texans, rockets and astros too.
Depends on how we win. If we score 60 on everyone, the offense obviously earn the lion share. But if we also hold everyone under 20, the defense earns equal credit.
It will be similar to the 1989 team. The offense gets all the headlines, but that defense was almost as good
I dont care if CMA succeeds or not. I want UH to succeed. If UH could go 12-0, i dont care if Satan is coaching the team (as long as he doesnât do it in an evil way).
If we go 11-1 this year, I will be praising the team and supporting them. I will give credit publicly to CMA that he succeeded
If the team fails and goes 3-9 this year (unlikely), i will support the players. They are Cougars. And yes I would publicly be calling out CMA for it. But I will not be calling out the players.
I already said I live in the Denton area. That means I watch more UNT football and know more about them than the average UH fan. It does not mean at all that I like them in any way more than UH.
Its like the average P5 fan with UCF last year. Most hadnt seen a single game UCF played but they couldnt possibly be worthy of being in the CFB Playoff conversation. Most UH fans didnt watch a single UNT game, but they just know UNT couldnt have been better than UH last year. After all, UH is a better program (which it is). MYbe if you only watched a couple of our big wins and the UNT/FAU games, youâd think that. But if you watched more, its harder to say UH was better last year
Jack Pardee knew. There is a reason he took Jim Eddy with him.
It goes both ways in the argument right? Or did you grow up in Nebraska, go to college at LSU and live in Oklahoma but still think UH was better than UNT as a whole last year?
Bottom line is that we currently have 8 players committed. All are 3* guys. It was not too long ago when we celebrated a 3* guy coming here. The GHrad Transfers are ranked higher. Some of the other transfers are sometime ranked higher. Perhaps one day we will be getting the 4 and 5 guys every now and then. But clearly it is proigress.
Recruits will see the Big Ed came here and is going on to huge things.
We need to win, win big, and beging and end ranked YEARLY.
It will happen.
