OT: Tillman's Yacht

Is it weird that when I saw the story about Mr Fertitta’s new yacht, I didn’t feel any sort of way other than maybe some basic curiosity of its amenities? What’s with the need to have an opinion on everything? Is simple observation dead now?

During the pandemic when restaurants were closed down by the government, he did what he had to do just to survive the loss of revenue. The expenses of maintaining those properties and paying the taxes on them didn’t stop just because he couldn’t use them for business.

It goes directly to your comment on what others should do with their $$.

“don’t worry about what others have”
I don’t care about what others have. To me, having less is less to worry about. I just wonder why the attitude is different when it comes to pro sports arenas and stadiums. Would we support this if we were talking about department stores or oil refineries, or would we complain it was moving toward socialism?
“count your own blessings”
Two of which are having been taxed out of my first home and soon to be taxed out of a second. When billionaires get tax breaks like these, the revenue has to be made up elsewhere, so everyone’s taxes are higher. And are you sure you want to allude to Christianity when what we’re really talking about here is Greed and Pride (vanity).
“Get s life”
If you’re going to childishly insult someone just because you disagree with them, at least show enough intelligence to correct your typos so that you don’t come off as a middle school drop-out.

How would this change if arenas and stadiums were privately owned, like any WalMart, etc? They still create jobs, so they’d still receive tax breaks just to get them to build.

And he became so destitute that he had to sell the Rockets and buy a $150 million yacht. Oh, the humanity.

Not worried about what others have. Worry about how others are treated that helped others get what they have. It’s a continual “duh?” parade.

What they have is subsidized by what I give through property and sales taxes.

I avoid renting cars in locales with an equivalent of our sports authority so that I’m not gouged to pay for a rich owners sports team.

Hotels are tougher to avoid.

Tilman Fertitta’s yacht:
“the Boardwalk was delivered to Fertitta in early 2021 from a construction yard in Aalsmeer, Netherlands.”

not sure if it’s been said but i’m pretty sure they charter those mega yachts out. so it’s not like he’s really throwing away 150 mil.

Here’s a 2017 Feadship, a little longer than Tilman’s, charter price is $1.5 mil per week

So eventually it’s probably close to a wash the amount he spends vs return in publicity, charter if he wants, entertaining investors etc. Or at least much less than the sticker price. Wealthy people don’t throw money away if they intend to stay wealthy.

I own an Air BnB in Galveston. This just seems to be his equivalent.

I really didn’t want to say anything……but I have a $151M yacht….I mostly just use it to fish in the bay.

So long as I didn’t subsidize it then I’m happy for your purchase and hope you chose a cool name.

Why should he be the one doing that? The man has ponied up a fortune for U of H , bought the Rockets and now he should be bringing an NHL franchise? It would be healthy if someone else steps up and do so.

Answer: because ultimately it would be his arena.

He should own the team.

He should, he should. That is his own money. He can choose what he wants to do with it.

What would be awesome is if he could find a way to make some NIL deals happen. That would surely benefit the entire program. I am unsure if it legally possible for him to do so.

Obscene wealth

One of the articles posted in this thread said that he does not charter out his yacht.

Wealth is not obscene, poverty is. Poverty can be prevented by jobs. Jobs are provided by the wealthy. Wealth is good.
