OT: Per Stub Hub SMU ticket sales increased 1403%

Cool enough to where we didn’t HAVE to buy a seat at the cool kids lunch table the way that they did though.

If you can’t see that that makes us cooler than them, then you aren’t thinking straight.

They did what they had to do. As much as it hurts me to say this, UH will never be SMU in that regard. Or Michigan or anyone else.

I should hope that we’ll never HAVE to be an R2 school that has to buy itself a seat at the cool kids lunch table like SMU.

If we do, then it’ll be a demotion.

Thank God we are better than that!

Belittling smu is asinine. As much as I can’t stand them they are right now ahead of us. There is no denying it.

Thank you. A bit of realism is helpful

R2 is not ahead of us.

Nor is having to buy yourself a seat at the cool kids’ table.

Their football team is better than ours for now.

But history tells us that won’t last.

It is a meaningless conversation. Their ticket total increased because they earned it. Period. Nothing to see there.

Stop saying we are at the cool kids table. Just stop.

SMU has a chance of being in the CFP, we don’t.

As of right now… they are better than us…

I am saying that they AREN’T.

If they were, then they wouldn’t have to buy themselves a seat at the cool kids’ table the way that they did.

The fact that we didn’t have to shows that we are comparatively COOLER.

That’s a FACT Jack!

Ryon what is the matter with you?

You got a beef with smu in the acc? Take it to the acc commish.
BLOODY HELL.

I have a beef with dorks paying to sit at the cool kids’ table the way that SMU did.

Anyone that doesn’t have to, like UH, SHOULD have such a beef.

FSU and Clemson, the cool kids, certainly did.

Exactly. They’re gonna win the ACC and have a sheadload of money to support their athletics. Continuing on R1 vs R2 tiers is conflating some issue that doesn’t exist in sports.

Here we go again.

We gave up a full share until 2025-2026, which is less than half of full revenue for 2 years. That’s “buying our way in” too, especially when you consider the deals that paid Colorado and P12 teams a “signing bonus” and full share to join.

And SMU will still receive a revenue distribution of some sort (full share from ACC Network, CFP share, and NCAABB share), and it could be more than $20MM.

You’ve picked the wrong hill to die on.

Not really.

But even assuming, just for argument’s sake, that that’s buying our way in, you’re talking about the difference between taking tens of millions for a few years and twice that much for the next eight years, and taking NOTHING for TEN years.

That’s how UNcool SMU is, comparatively speaking, when put up against UH.

SMU was soooo UNcool that when they bought themselves a seat at a cool kids table, the two coolest kids at that table (FSU and Clemson) BOTH got up and tried to move to a cooler table.

That should tell you something.

Cool kids!

I’m not sure what the actual point is behind the SMU criticism, and make no mistake, I hate that institution… But, the fact is, if they beat Clemson and make the playoffs, then everything they did to get into the ACC is validated. They will be far ahead of UH and will receive a flood of funding to their football program. They won’t have anything to worry about… SMU won’t even blink at what they’re missing out on… And whatever anyone thinks of them sure as hell won’t matter.

Because what makes you “cool” is making the playoffs…

Totally agree. Why the SMU hate? They’re just better right now, in almost every respect. Stop pretending we’re cool. Sooner we own up to it, the sooner we will address it.

SMU bought their way into a power conference and have a realistic chance of taking Alabama’s CFP spot , even with a loss Saturday.

Dude, we are not in the same level as SMU right now.
