He wasn’t getting a quote from that question and everyone in the room knew it. There were plenty of other ways to ask questions about that scenario.
But yeah I do think coach was a little snarky with some of his answers.
And everyone in the room knew the question had to be asked. Also you never truly know what answer you will get (or not get) until you ask the question.
Jerome Tang lashed out at a ref in his post-game press conference after their game with us. The ref was chirping at one of his players, Tang told the ref to be the adult and he got a technical. In the post-game presser, Tang retold the story. Does anyone know if Tang got fined for that?
Can’t blame a guy for asking, I guess.
Duarte asked a valid question a reporter should ask.
Regardless, I get the feeling that something’s off. Coach has been excitable last two weeks, hope everything’s well with him.
There is one particular poster who runs to Duarte’s defense every time anyone says something about him.
Kudos to CKS for handling it appropriately.
Will Sampson be suspended a game for that outburst and running on to the court, I hope not that will only hurt the team
Hope not.
In fact, unlike some others, I am glad Shead wasn’t the one asked why Sampson stormed the court. If so, there’s a better than zero chance his reply wouldn’t be ideal. He could either come off looking unsupportive of Samson or a whiner to some. So to me, asking is correct and directing it at Sampson is also correct. Not doubting Shead at all.(love him)… just had no justification for asking the player why the coach stormed the court.
And we all know the wrath of Sampson (love the guy) can be brutal…and sometimes he let’s it spill out of bounds to a degree. I think he did here (at the reporter). Even so, I personally will accept that over being polite with less passion.
All in all, not significant…unless consequences surprise us here.
I’m sorry but “what exactly happened and what are your thoughts? isn’t a bait question. It’s a completely open ended question that he could’ve answered in a way that wouldn’t get him close to being fined. Like: “I saw a couple of physical plays back to back that were pretty clear cut and borderline where my guys could’ve gotten hurt so I felt like I needed to protect my guys and their futures.” CKS is savvy enough to navigate an answer and avoid what he shouldn’t say but still illuminate his position and view.
A bait question would be something like: “based on your reaction on court, do you find the officiating to be lopsided and stacked against your team because of their physicality?” Baiting someone takes a narrative, argument or conclusion that is assumed in a slanted way and makes a respondent have to engage with the slanted premise/framing in order to answer.
An OSU fan was impressed with Fertitta Center. He said it was as loud as KU Allen Fieldhouse.
Yeah, fans and players were fuming after what trasnpired in the game and Sampson’s ejection.
I think Sampson is way too experienced to be “baited” by a reporter’s question, but the reporter certainly has a right, maybe even an obligation, to ask the question.
Sampson’s actions in getting ejected were calculated to bring the issue to the fore, and I think he’s done that, and done it without getting fined or jeopardizing the team’s chances to win a game.
Yeah, Duarte’s job is to ask what happened during the game and report on it. Him asking more than once and from different angles of the question is standard as a reporter.
100%
I think some of you are making way too much of CKS reaction. I would write that he handled it perfectly. CKS eyes and smile said it all. He commands the room and his team. You can feel the respect and leadership his players have for him.
Now remember this friends:
“I respond to leaders not to a boss” More or less that is what CKS said. Love it.
I am a Journalist. It wasn’t baiting. Reporters are supposed to ask questions, the best of which are always going to be ones people don’t want to answer.
Wrong. The ref totally knew what he was doing. That’s the problem.
Right asking an obvious question isn’t baiting. There was no trick there, if Sampson had fully answered that question and caught a fine that would’ve been his own fault.
Not too manty reporters enjoy post game interviews. You are asking questions you already know the answers to, the coach and players may be in a good mood…or not, and you could probably script most of the transcript earlier in the day and not sweat a deadline.
The great thing about CKS is he keeps his responses fresh and does not go into coach-speak.
He didn’t take the bai…he has been around much too long and way to smart for that…he turned it around and made it funny…great coach, great person…regardless, it’s a huge, huge game Saturday…I hope we are all in a good mood afterwards…
