I agree. Sometimes the media are just jerks. Last night, they were asking questions that any media member could and should ask. CKS was just in a mood. I mean, at one point Starns asked him what he thought about Mylik’s impact in the first half and CKS went on a rant about how he didn’t know because he wasn’t there, even though he didn’t get tossed until 5 mins into the 2nd half. CKS was mad, and I get it. But the media members last night should not have been the object of his wrath. Instead of belittling people for asking totally expected questions, he could have just said “no comment.”
If it was just that one play, that’s fine. But it wasn’t . He did the same thing in the first half too.
I wouldn’t be surprised that CKS and Fran Fraschilla talked about this (the physicality of the game and non-calls) before the game. When the opportunity presented itself, CKS teed it up for Fran and got T’d up for it. After that, Fran, who had already been talking about it, carried it on for a few minutes. I’m sure the Big XII is aware.
That was more than just a shove in the back. It was a shove to the head/neck area. Regardless of who is guarding who, that’s a foul and completely uncalled for. And it happened directly in front of that ref. And it wasn’t the first instance on the night. But I agree CKS was trying to make a statement. He stood up for his players and (hopefully) got the attention of the Big 12 or whoever it is they assigned to grade those refs.
Coach was in a mood during that presser. I love the guy, but taking it out on the few reporters that bother to show up wasn’t necessary. If you don’t like the question, just say no comment.
Agreed. A lot of opposing fans say we’re always over the back, but our players get undercut a lot and frequently hit the floor hard because of it
I think some of it was Kelvin trying to be his dry humor self on some butt when your in a bad mood it comes off as really abrasive. It happens.
He was spot on during the press conference and always hold them accountable. Stop repeating questions whether it’s not or from previous interviews.
Then our own beat writer trying to bait CKS into making a mistake.
I didn’t see it as bait. Someone was going to ask about it.
Is your contention that the refs were trying to rest our frontcourt?
Well it was and he caught on to it. The press had their answer immediately and really his answer was very telling. He didn’t need to say specifics and was very clear he was not backing down about the horrific officiating.
Sampson was channeling his “grumpy old man” persona. The reporters that cover the team are used to it. Not a big deal.
Borrowing a phrase from former New York’s sports anchor at WNBC Len Berman, “no one got hurt” at the presser.
I’m curious if he will be fined or punished for the antics. Hopefully not, but we shall see.
It should have been asked to Shead not Sampson. I think Sampson’s response to the shove off pretty well told his feeling.
Reporters are paid to show up. Don’t act like they are doing us a big favor. They are not doing us a huge favor.
The writers can get away with discussing bad officiating but coaches can’t.
I can understand why Sampson put him in his place.
That statement you wanted him to make would cost $25,000.00. Are you willing to cover it for him?
Duarte should have paid the fine. In the interest of truth. More headlines.
Sampson ran onto the court and appeared to make contact with one of the officials. If that situation doesn’t warrant a question, i don’t know what does.
Yeah I mean he stormed on to the court, got in faces, etc. Of course there was going to be questions. Anyone saying otherwise, is just being foolish.
I honestly think his, “It’s a $25,000 fine if I tell the truth,” was a perfect answer. It sends the message, exactly what or whom his ejection was about while keeping within the rules of not directly criticizing the obviously bad officiating.
The reporters may not be doing us a favor, but they are doing a service that many pay for. They’re doing their job… not terribly surprising
How much do you think Duarte makes? I doubt he has an extra $25k or whatever.
