Houston Cougars 2023-2024 Football Team

Of the 133 FBS schools, UH is 82nd in returning production (24th on offense!) (119th on defense).
For Big 12 purposes, Texas is 19th in returning production. TCU is 118th in returning production, Kansas State 76th. UTSA is 115th. Secondary and OLine had a ton leave. On a bigger scale, Michigan is 5th in returning production.

Seems like a good mix… Offense was pretty good and Defense was not so much… seems like the right percentages.

I’m very happy with our percentages. Is the nicest way I can put it :joy:

On defense, does this mean we are returning “production” OR…the LACK thereof???

Phil Steele has done a pre-season analysis for years. While he looks at returning production rankings such as these he is quick to point out that on the offensive side of the ball there is one single metric that year after year is far and away the best predictor of offensive success in the upcoming season. That metric is the overall number of starts of returning offensive linemen. If you have a lot of returning starting experience in the offensive line, the offense will be good. If you don’t have a lot of returning OL with starting experience the offense will struggle.

We lost too many guys to injury early on in the season and some of them are now gone to the NFL, others to graduation or expired eligibility. We have bolstered our D a lot through the portal and I am positive it will be night and day better than last year.

Our offense lost a lot in Tune, Dell, and Henry, but our entire starting OL is returning and I think all but one of our 2 deep. We also will bring up some of our RSFR on the line and have brought in a couple of new guys, 1 HS and one 4 star portal transfer from UT.

Our OL improved greatly as the season went on and I am very positive on them being good this fall. Remember, we started 4 sophs and 1 junior last season. There’s no substitute for experience and now they have more experience, more familiarity working with the guys next to them, and another year of physical maturity and training.

I think our offense has more talent than we ever had if… our new QB fits in well. We are silly good at the skill positions.

How is the rehabilitation of our injured RB going?

Now don’t go on here spitting facts. It doesn’t fit the narrative

Not to be “that guy” but was the I intentionally left out of Protecting?

Offense doesn’t even account for Run AMc since he was out all season. Huge.

Donovan Smith has played a lot over the last couple of seasons. Huge.

Defense. David Ugwoegbu, AJ Haulcy, and Isaiah Hamilton. Huge.

Is it out of place to say I may want to see Demetrius Hunter at Center, over Jack Freeman? I don’t have the grades for Freeman last year but Hunter was an UA AA, and that isn’t just given to everyone. I feel his ceiling is much higher and I’d like to get him in the game as quickly as possible.

Anyone have thoughts?

UT transfer, too!

If he can play RT, I’m all for it !

They left the AAC logo in the last one also. Someone doesn’t proof read.

important to note that Big12 is not exactly known for its defense, it’s an offense based league, that being said, when it’s top team faced a real defense it got clobbered.
but it may mean we can be more competitive than we think next year
