Houston Astros 2023 Season on a daily roll

Javier has proven to be effective in long relief. Do you trust Urquidy or Garcia as much in that role? That will surely play a role in the decision.

Heā€™s exceptional in both roles.

Agree, not sure the others can say same.

Kinda doubt we carry 13 pitchers for the ALDS. Last year we used 12.

I donā€™t want to think about the roster because Iā€™m gonna get mad.

On another note I marvel at professional baseball players. 162 games. Imagine the fortitude and toughness it takes to stay motivated that many games. Yet, even with the outcome no longer in doubt these guys go out and hammer away. This Astros team could be special. I really want this WS for Verlander and Dusty at this point. Both could have gone off to do commercials and play golf. But they came back to the grind to give it their all. Impressive.

The playoff roster for pitchers is limited to 13 players. It could be less, but not more than 13 pitchers.

I really want Brantley to get a ring too.

That would be nice

Iā€™m more concerned with HFA in the WS. Unless we bring the bats out for Verlander. Something we rarely do in the playoffs.

Agree but would add - Yankees of this era barely hit in Houston.
Extra ALCS game cant hurt.

EXACTLY!!!

Mets choked their WS hopes away. No way they win their WC series and beat the Dodgers and Braves.

ā€œWhile Click has not made the blockbuster acquisitions that his predecessor did, heā€™s also not been in a position to, inheriting an unremarkable farm system when hired in 2020. Instead, heā€™s made relatively inexpensive moves that have largely paid off.
Perhaps none look to be as fruitful as the Myles Straw trade,ā€

Altuve also got his OPS up over .900. He and Yordan are 2 of only 4 players this year to break that .300/.900 barrier. Remarkable.

I donā€™t have strong feelings about Click. However, Iā€™m a huge fan of strengthening the farm at all costs, short of tanking a WS opportunity.

MLB fans are unique in that they want their clubs to play the long game and short game, too. They gauge their clubsā€™ success on a revolving 12-month calendar. If Click truly is as shrewd as the article intends then he might be the perfect GM for the Astros - who are at a pivot point on their trajectory. Keep the momentum! I want a contender every year.

Is there anyone on this board who DID NOT know when Smith came in the no-no was over?

On the farmā€”ā€”yeah Iā€™d love the farm to be stronger but yet at the same time the Astros farm is drastically underratedā€¦ā€¦the guys that do the rankings are mostly impressed with bonus babies and what their pedigree says they should beā€¦ā€¦

They donā€™t care about the Altuve, Garcia,Javier, Urquidy, or Brownā€¦.Even Yordan,Pena and Lee have been under the radarā€¦ā€¦Joe Musgrove , Josh Rojas ( who would be an upgrade over Dubon) anyone?

I would love to see a legitimate list made by guys that care as much or more about player development as draft status.

Heā€™s just not the Smith that we watched on other teams.

No-no aside, Smith protected the shutout with the bases loaded by throwing three strikeouts.
