Houston Astros 2023 Season on a daily roll

Altuve is the major reason why the Astros have kept performing at a high level through coaching and big personnel changes. No. 27 is gonna hang on the wall someday.

I love Altuve……he would be on the Astros Mt. Rushmore but not greatest ever….Biggio got 3,000 hits in an Astros uniform…

Tuve has more work to do.

Got to go with Baggy

I respect your opinion even though it’s wrong :joy:

In addition to the 3K hits what does it for me is that he was an All-Star catcher, was told one spring he was gonna be a second baseman .Matt Galante and Craig went to a back field and he took about 10,000 grounders in a month…. Soon after he was an All-Star second baseman….
Then they told him to go play CF….no push back….did it for the team.
Ultimate team guy.

For me, I switch 2 and 3.

Give Altuve 5 or 6 more seasons.

He’ll break Biggio’s hit record, have a higher lifetime average, more homers, more pennants and WS titles, more stolen base titles, all-star appearances, etc.

He’ll probably not just break, but SHATTER the post-season HR record.

He’ll go down as #1 before it’s all said and done, barring injuries.

He might, but it’s gonna take more than 6 seasons. No way he averages 180 hits per year as he ages - he has around 150 this year.

He’s only 32. If it takes him 8 season, it takes him 8 seasons.

But he’ll go down as #1 before it’s all over.

*If he does all that with the Stros

I have a feeling he’ll stay.

He’s not exactly a fan favorite elsewhere. Pretty good incentive to stick around!

I hope so but you just never know how things will play out. I agree though that if he plays out his career here he’ll probably deserve that #1 spot. Especially if he brings us another title (or more!).

I love me some Craig Biggio but statistically speaking, Altuve is better.

Altuve has played 12 season and has a 1,929 hits and 192 home runs

Biggio through his first 12 seasons had 1,868 hits and 152 home runs.

There is not a huge deviation. Biggio had the strike year and Altuve had the Covid year. In terms of games missed, Altuve missed more games from Covid than Biggio did because of the strike.

Fielding I think they are on par with each other.

So as it stands the last remaining question is can Altuve play 8 more years and match Biggio’s 20 year career. But through 12 seasons Altuve is slightly better.

I’ll take Altuve on what He has done in the post season. Biggio and Bagwell seemed to disappear in the playoffs.

Hopefully Smith pitched his way off the playoff roster……what he did last night is what he will do in the playoffs….you can’t trust him in a high leverage situation so what’s the point of being on the playoff roster.

I’d rather have Brown and Garcia both coming in blowing upper 90’s for a couple of innings.

I fear that the obsession with having a LHP in the bullpen will lead to bad decision-making.

I have been the biggest proponent in the world of keeping enough LHP around for when needed. But I’m not a zealot about it. If you suck then I’m 100% in favor of going against orthodoxy.

That said, lets really set our sights on having lefties in the pen that mean business.Spend money on a guy that can come in and throw crazy ## at three batters.

Sounds like they’re going to bring Jake up for another look and put the third catcher on the taxi squad.

I hope he shows his pre-injury stuff, because that would be a nice add for the playoffs.

I agree. He hasn’t been the same since he went out. Seems like just yesterday.
