House Houston

I think we really need to use this slogan.

Our University is named after a noble Scottish Family that owned a castle outside of Glasgow, begore immigrating to the colonies that would
become the United States.

Make the House Houston our theme, highlight OUR University’s coat of arms which was inspired by the Houston’s family coat of arms.

Have an alternate helmet with the coat of arms.

H-Town Takeover was successful but that represents a different era but we can definitely use a House Houston Game of Thrones inspired moto and ask local recruits IF they want to win a Championship for THEIR HOUSE…or another?

Bring it to the House! Take it to the House! House Money! Whose House! etc.

Yes!

We already started it with “whose House?” and with our coat of Arms:

Water runs off our backs like a duck and our feet are steadily paddling like theirs always in motion

Huh? You mean it’s not named after the city?

That’s exactly my thoughts.

The University was named for the city. The city was named for Sam Houston. Yes his genealogy goes back to Scotland but our University does not.

Besides

According to biographer John Hoyt Williams, Houston was not close with his siblings or his parents, and he rarely spoke of them in his later life

If he wasn’t close with them, why would the University associate with them.

Since the University was named for the city, it is the city’s roots we should reflect and not Clan Houston which really doesn’t have any tie to the University.

Jmo but house Houston sounds awful. Sounds like trying to latch on to tv show from several years ago… a show with dragons in it nonetheless

Maybe if we had a larping team.

The City is named after the Houston family.

They were a very noble family.

Sir John Houston immigrated here

His family was displaced during rhe English Civil Wars, first, forcing them to relocate to Ireland before coming to the English Colonies with the other waves of fleeing Scot-Irish in the early 1700s.

It was named in honor of Sam Houston, not in honor of his family or the clan.

This I like… white lid with oversized red coat of arms would be sick

They were a very privileged upper class family, earning knighthood

Sam was being groomed to be President of the United States, out of Tennessee, before a divorce derailed his political career forcing him to start over in Texas

It would be Epic!

No it was named after Sam Houston, one member of the family who was a war hero.

He did not immigrate to Houston or even Texas.

He wasn’t even close to his family.

It was named by two brothers from New York who were familiar with the weight, the Houston family name carried in the Northeast

They initially, attempted to get northeast investments into their new city.

They even ran ads in northeast papers asking for investment

There are no bad ideas on the off-season message board. Though I think the amount of explaining you have to do to make this click kind of makes it a non-starter. A marketing thing like this has to click almost instantly in these times.

John immigrated to Pennsylvania and then had a plantation in Virginia, where his great grandson, Sam, was born.

The Houston family is known in Virginia
