GAMEDAY THREAD: Houston at Rice (L 43-41)

I could believe it if we were playing in conference. But Hell, we should never let Rice get that many points so quickly.

Belk like much of our key positions is inexperienced. Inexperience usually shows up as inconsistent performance. Holgo rolled the dice with inexperience in so many areas. Itā€™s really just crazy

Rice had over 400 yards passing and only 69 yards rushing the entire game. Any pass oriented offense with a good QB will easily score on us.

Dana had a huge buyout at WVU, had not recruited well and we were graduating EVERYBODY. I knew WVU would suck the next year and we were stuck with Dana foreverā€¦then, like a guardian angel, Houston stepped in and saved us by hiring him away. We used this lucky reprieve to hire an unproven young head coach and hired him to a contract with yet another HUGE BUYOUT. Now, just because i was happy to be rid of Dana did NOT mean that i necessarily thought it was bad for Houston. Dana was a Texas guy trying to recruit Texas, from Morgantown and failingā€¦i assumed he could succeed at recruiting Texas in Houston and maybe he can and is getting talent in slowly. That is a determination that Houston will need to make. At WVU we hired Neal Brown and have seemingly wasted the gift Houston gave us.

Well, on Oct 12th you might just be in for a treatā€¦WVU has a pretty solid run game but our QBs are woefully inexperienced and we are young, inexperienced and lack depth at WR. Oh and our secondary just loves to give 3.5 mile cushions to opposing recievers. You may just match up perfectly against WVU.

THIS! More than youā€™ll ever know. I canā€™t FATHOM losing or stumbling our way to wins which feel like defeats with this idiot at the helm. Danaā€™s a disgrace, no idea when he lost his way. After OK State?

Yes NIL = Parity.

Its going to be a brand new college football landscape.

Lowly Rice was able to hang with Texas last week and they may be the #1 team in the country here soon.

Thatā€™s how great NIL isā€¦you can now finally build a solid team in one offseason

The thing isā€¦ even if CDH gets the talent, and heā€™s had NFL level talent, heā€™s not good enough of a coach to consistently win with that talent.

Heā€™s just not a good coach or a leader of a program

I have suspected that this might be true. As a head coach he might be out of his element. Maybe, just maybe his niche is being an offensive coordinator under a real head coachā€¦a head coach that can keep him in line.

Iā€™m with Red. Of course I see the shortcomings and think itā€™s time for a change. However, we have a lot of quitters on this board. People canā€™t complain about attendance, lack of support, etc. and talk about selling their tickets, not renewing next year, or just no-showing for the next games.

Nobody likes a quitter.

You know who didnā€™t quit last night? The players. Should we have been down 28-0? Of course not. But you have to give them (and the coaches) credit for getting back into the game and almost pulling it out. Frankly, we should have won. The PI on Riceā€™s 2-points conversion was BS.

Quitters on this board Iā€™m not as concerned about. But, my fear of losing to any of our OOC opponents has come to pass, which means any hope of continued attendance at home games just went out the door. More season ticket holders will not be attending and will definitely have reason to sell their uta tix and get money back. I wonā€™t. Iā€™ll be there, but that was my fear of Dana blunders.

Said it before that Dana is not the guy to build this program. Last night drove that point home. Cut bait and move on from this guy

Has anyone stopped to think the Rice admin is mad at their coach for only beating Dana by 2 at home?

Iā€™m not giving up. I think he can turn it around. I bet he starts to kick the field goals now. Every year is different. The play when that #23 punched that ball out was telling. Where was #10? Brown competes.
Iā€™m going to hold out hope these players have learned something and can can rebound quickly.

I do as well, Red. I thought Rice would give us trouble. We often have problems at Rice Stadium (I remember the 2006 conference championship team won by a point thanks to a blocked PAT), we looked past them, and this is probably their best team in years. If we only win 3-4 then we can consider hiring a new coach after the season.

Youre literally one of the last of the Dana holdouts at this point. If we go 2-10, which we are at the rate weā€™re going, will that be enough for you?
