Take with a grain of salt whatever this guy says. To be such a big insider for Texas State, he just got on Twitter one year ago.
He’s just a Bobcat fan with only 365 followers. Everyone already knows that TXST is talking to the MWC so no surprise there. It could happen but he’s just throwing mud on the wall.
They may be waiting to see what happens before making anything official. Liberty didn’t accept their C-USA invite until it was official that MTSU and WKU officially were not invited/jouning the MAC.
I gotta be honest and say that I really don’t like “xy and z are happening, but I can’t tell you who I heard that from” rumors.
That’s what this podcaster just did.
People on this board did the same thing with “UH is being vetted by the B1G,” and “UH is negotiating to join the PAC.”
Of course, both rumors were nonsense, and obviously whichever person told those posters that was a full of schitt know-nothing.
That said, any Prez could change their mind, so it wouldn’t shock me to hear that one or more Big 12 presidents may be changing direction here.
Perhaps some are thinking that they won’t be able to catch the P2 in football, so they’d prefer to double down on basketball instead.
UConn is going to need a conference home for football. Once UMass joins the MAC, ND will be the only other remaining FBS football independent, and the only FBS school capable of doing that sustainably.
Whether UConn joins the PAC Light as football only, or goes to the Big 12 as an all sports school is perhaps still an open question.
The video is by Greg Flugar. He’s been profiled by the LA Times. He is quite possibly the only non-journalist on YouTube who has legitimate sources when it comes to conference realignment.
He’s been wrong before, of course, but he’s shooting a high percentage.
