Discussion: Slade Nagle named UH Offensive Coordinator

Nagle seems to be middling. But heck, if we just had a middling offense last year we could have won the conference.
Being 86th in Offense out of 132 teams is nothing to brag about. We need to be Top 50 to really get going. He will have his work cut out for him. He better get creative because fane are not going to react well to another Barbay -like hiringor should they.

This is one of the hires of all time.

LSU fans don’t seem particularly upset about losing Nagle

He’ll either be successful or not. If not, the clock is ticking on the Fritz era; two bad seasons in a row with lackluster OC hires would be solid evidence he isn’t the guy.

Pretty short thread. Seems like they did not even really know he was there.

Look, if he was 24-3 with Nagle as OC/AHC, then let’s see what he can do here.

This hire brings calmness and familiarity to the chaos. Make the right DC hire, do well in the transfer portal and things will be looking solid going into the spring

I mean, do you know who our current TE coach is? I certainly don’t.

we wanted Leftwich and I’m guessing us being poor is why we got left with this guy
Leftwich is down to Tech or Utah smh

23-5 record when he called the offense at Tulane

clearly a GIANT step up.

Because he was named interim head coach and was probably told he would be interviewed for the permanent head job after two years of doing a great job calling the offense.

He took a shot and wasn’t hired.

Not true.

I’d much rather have Nagle.

Dude went 12-2 ( including a Cotton Bowl victory)and 10-3 calling offense at Tulane.

We have some guys in this thread talking out of their a$$

It is a weird situation, though. I can’t recall anything like that – a coach passing on a job, only to wind up taking an immediate demotion – happening before.

Just to add, he called the offense both years.

Well lets see. Two schools in our conference with a lot more money than us want Leftwich
and not a single school seemed to be on Nagle other than us (too lazy to look up if others offered him tbf).

We can cope all we want, but it’s been a rough week

He was named interim when Fritz left

as the OC and guy that called their offense two extremely successful years in a row I guarantee he was offered an interview for the head job.

Most guys will go for the interview.

How much of a $$ demotion was it? OC at Tulane to TE and ST coach at LSU.

Yeah, but I can’t think of a lot of guys that wound up taking a demotion even if they didn’t get the job. David Gibbs, for example, stuck around to interview for the permanent position and got passed on, but still wound up a DC at Tech. I can’t recall anyone else that moved downward in a similar situation unless they were on the verge of getting fired anyway.

nagle only called plays one full season at Tulane
