I saw this article from scientific american today, and although i think its a much stronger rebuke of our entire peer review process, it does imply there is some tarnish on that Stanford academic ivory tower…
Gonna wear my UH cap at the state fair. Let’s see if ‘Neer fans will participate in some banter
I hope so, i think youll probably get some good feedback…is that being held in Lewisburg?
OUCH!!!
That’s definitely NOT a good look for Stanford or its Prez.
That ranks right up there with Utah’s cold fusion in a bottle!!!
That said…the selectivity and prestige of their professional schools will likely allow them to overcome this blight on their reputation.
Yessir it’s running through the 19th. Was curious why what’s basically a corner of the state hosts it. 25 years living in Texas never saw the fair there. Definitely on the bucket list to see the OU/UT fans collide
That actually could be a good conference and p5 worthy. However I doubt they all get together like that.
Lewisburg is beautiful country…in 1763 my gggg uncle Archibald Clendenin and his family and other settlers were massacred there by Cornstalk during the Pontiac War…a huge trigger event that eventually led to the Battle of Pt Pleasant (Lord Dunsmore’s war)(the battle of Pt Pleasant was a crucial event leading to victory in the American revolution and westward expansion past the Ohio river after the revolution). No victory at Pt Pleasant and there likely wouldnt have been a state of Texas. The WV capital city of Charleston was named after my 5x great grandfather Charles Clendenin after Ft Lee was founded on the site of Charleston in spring of 1788 by his sons George and William Clendenin. George was a Virginia assemblyman that voted in the affirmative to ratify the United States Constitution in the summer of 1788. The Clendenin family were Jacobite rebels that first escaped Scotland for Ireland after the 1715 rebellion, and eventually 3 brothers including Charles and Archibald settled in America. In Scotland they were vassal knights of Glendonwyn under the Douglas and Bruce families.
Some people believe Cornstalk unleashed The Mothman. I’d stay the hell outa the Cornstalk and Mothman business.
BTW, we had a great Kicker named Clendenen.
Spelled differently but probably from the same clan.
Ive visited the mothman museum with my daughter…it was fun, creepy, but fun. The events of that movie (silver bridge collapse) occurred in 1967 the year after my birth. A lot of drama went down in that little town. When Col Lewis arrived with his army at Pt Pleasant he had issued orders that no soldiers leave camp probably under suggestion from indian scouts we NOW KNOW were enemy double agents. On the morning of the battle 2 Virginia colony soldiers disobeyed orders and went hunting and encountered Cornstalk crossing the Ohio River just 2 miles above the colonist camp…only one made it back in time to warn the colonists who just barely had time to form ranks and brace for the attack. The battle went on all day and only broke in favor of the colonists when Lewis sent a small force up a nearby creek and came out in the rear of the Shawnee force about where 10th street is in Pt Pleasant. Then of course sometime afterwards Cornstalk and his son were killed at Ft Randolph.
Yeah, same clan, no doubt. No true scotsman might be a logical fallacy but id be willing to bet he is my distant cousin…a true scotsman. Thru the Clendenin line i have direct ancestry to Sir James ‘the good’ Douglas and King Robert de Bruce. Those people lived some wild lives…the Mel Gibson movie doesnt even scratch the surface.
A little something about the name origin, and spelling variations from its origin. Now the father of my “Clendenin” ancestors was William Glendenning and the mother was Rose Ann Kirkpatrick of the Closeburn Kirkpatrick’s. Now before the Scottish wars of independence began Robert the Bruce was quarreling with John the Red Comyn and they met at the Greyfriars church in Dumfries, a fight ensued and Robert mortally wounded Comyn…Bruce wasnt sure he killed Comyn so his master at arms Sir Roger Kirkpatrick rushed into the church and made sure. (I mak siccar)…anywho its a longway of saying that who ever killed Comyn, was my ancestor. LOL
Clendenin Name Meaning, Family History, Family Crest & Coats of Arms.
App State folks?
We’ve seen this story a few times. Looks like the writing is on the wall.
What are they going to do
I just saw 365 where a guest said that the SEC may not be interested in FSU since it may not add more money for each school and why would SEC schools want to give an equal share to their competition.
Let them have less money in the ACC and be less competitive financially.
Ohhh…so someone is actually thinking things through instead of jumping on board the media train?!?
I was wondering when people (programs) were gonna finally wake up and look at things through the lens of stark realism vs hype and propaganda. There comes a point where you can’t grow the pie with the available ingredients.
And FSU ain’t no juggernaut…in either fball or bball.
I would actually be worried if I were a fair to middlin team in the SEC. There’s gonna come a time when the drunks on the boat realize there are too many sailers and not enough rum.
(All due respect to Mike, who I’m sure was a perfectly sober sailer)
Those 4 may go to the SEC
The P2 model we’re headed towards is going to saturate the marquee matchup market.
In 2021 we saw Alabama and Georgia face off three times. THREE TIMES! The CCG cash grab game needs to go away for the P2 model to work.
You know why we are clamoring for Texas on October 21st? It’s not just because they’re Texas and we hate them and their involvement with keeping us out of the Big 12. It’s also because it’s been 21 years since we played them. If we played Texas every season, then the allure of the game and the meaning and importance would t have as much weight on us emotionally.
The elite clubs tried this in soccer across the pond and the fans absolutely fought back and destroyed any chance of a power league being formed. Unfortunately our fans here don’t have that much power or they prefer the chaos and drama over the tradition.
Glad we’re in a P4, but the future of college football is headed down a dangerous path if I get to see Texas and Alabama play twice a year. That won’t be so epic as it was in the past.
