That reminds of the Marvel CGI fan boy fest movies have become. Its just too much and in giving the audience everything it wants all the time (spoon fed backstories and action that defies physics to the point and looking silly), it becomes too much and loses its charm. Imagination, Intrigue and emotion based on those things is lost.
ex: I’m a huge “Terminator” fan. As a child of the cold war, I loved the hints at back story and what brought us to the point of the film. I didn’t necessarily need to be spoon fed every detail in high CGI cartoonish spectacle. Not to mention the action that was superhuman, but practical and believable. With each film, it moved farther and farther away. The story was way better left to my mind. Hollywood didn’t see it that way and tried and tried to cash in. I see this as a similar saturation that gives people all they think they want and then some to the point of desensitization and fatigue.
The teams that voted for Cal and Stanford to join aren’t doing so because they’re so interesting in playing them. They’re doing it because it’s their best chance at remaining a P5 conference once FSU/Clemson leave.
A school like Miami could be dead in the water come realignment. The SEC doesn’t need Miami, and despite being an academically high ranked school, they don’t fit with the B1G.
Both the PAC and ACC view the Big 12 as the conference of teams the Power 2 don’t want
This means that Miami, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Duke, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Pitt, Syracuse and Boston College and Uva all must believe they have no P2 escape options. I would think that Miami, Georgia Tech, Duke, one or both of the Virginia schools would all believe they had a chance, but they evidently know things that the public at large does not know.
Miami would be the big catch for the Big 12. I keep hearing Pittsburgh is lock as well once ACC breaks up.
My best guess would be:
SEC Florida St, Clemson, North Carolina & North Carolina St Big 10 Notre Dame, Duke, Syracuse & Virginia Big 12 Miami, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech & Louisville
We do not want Boston College; UConn is a better pick up than them…do not forget Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech… much better grabs. I think Pitt and Louisville are locks.
I would substitute Virginia Tech for Boston College. Just couldn’t find their name on the list. That’s hoping Miami doesn’t go indy if they’re spurned by the SEC & Big 10.
The B1G stops at 20 with Stanford + Notre Dame
Syracuse and Duke drop the illusion of trying to keep up with professional college football and goes all in on basketball in the Big East
The SEC picks up FSU, Clemson, Virginia & North Carolina
The Big 12, errrr Big 20 …adds the 4 best schools that are left
I think Stanford’s P5 days are behind them unfortunately. If they don’t get an invite now, then their value as a football program is just going to tank as a G5 resulting in an even less reason to invite them in the future.
Also - there’s really no confirmation that all 3 conferences have plans of expanding to 20. Perhaps the Big 10 does take Notre Dame and UNC, and the SEC takes FSU and Clemson.
Anything over 18-20 is going to take serious consideration. I don’t see why the Big 12 really needs 4 more east coast schools. I say Yormark should grab the best 2 that we can get and stop there. It gives the Big 12 bargaining power vs. just taking every single breadcrumb
I flush turds down my toilet that are more significant than Boston College. The Eagles are a former rival of sorts for WVU, much the way a bugs arse rivals a windshield on an interstate highway. WVU beat that little cockroach Doug Flutie all of the 3 times we faced him. (WVU was the only school that he faced more than once that he never won against) Anyway, BC has no fanbase…even Rutgirls generates more fan interest than BC. Virginia Tech would be a far superior Big 12 member than BC.
