Basis for disdain for Taylor Swift is?

I think part of the hate for her is because her movement has gotten so big. Terms like “swifties” annoy people. People go goo goo over her albums like they are classical masterpieces when are they are just manufactured pop songs - dime a dozen really. Having to pay hundreds of dollars to see her in concert annoys people - supposedly she and her songs represent the sentiments of the “every female” or something like that, but if you want to partake in person in concert you gotta bring the big $. Something feels ironic and hypocritical there.

Some may not like she abandoned country music early in her career.

I think the fact that she has become so big without (this is my opinion) transcendent beauty (like a Beyoncé or Rihanna), transcendent voice (like a Mariah Carey or Christina Aguilera), transcendent ability to dance (like Jlo or Michael Jackson), etc… (again my opinion) leaves a lot of people confused, and possibly feeling angry/jealous of her massive success.

It’s almost like she can be likened to a political candidate that has been pushed to the top by invisible forces in the background and you look around wondering how she is the one at the mountain top and not the dozens of other “more capable” politicians, or in her case singers.

Personally she is just another pop singer to me that has a couple catchy songs. I don’t get the massive fame and following, but to each their own and she has found a way to rally the swifties to drive her high up the capitalist plateau. Good for her I guess.

Some of you wax rhapsodic about The Nuge and other musicians who are political on the side you lean. Nothing new.

She’s a one-woman industry. Job creator. I went online to view her “Anti-Hero” video because I hadn’t heard any song I knew she performed. Amazingly, she’s become rich and famous without many of us buying her music or concert tickets or our giving our approvals.

All of this may be true. What I have heard though from non Taylor Swift fans who have taken their kids to her concert has said that she puts on one of the best shows they have ever been to.

Yeah, but Nuge is one hell of a guitar player.

His “Jailbait” is a classic:

Well, I don’t care if you’re just thirteen/ You look too good to be true/
I just know that you’re probably clean

Wait a minute officer/ Don’t put those handcuffs on me/ Put them on her and I’ll share her with you.

LEGEND. :flushed:

I went to see Taylor when she played Rodeo. It was a very good show and she came across as a nice kid. Nothing has changed my opinion

Boo hoo

If you want my honest opinion, this demographic probably makes up a good portion of her fanbase. She’s not stupid enough to completely disregard her roots as a country artist which is largely conservative.

Taylor isn’t a “woke” artist. That’s why she’s so popular because she appeals to such a wide audience. She’s not a self identified conservative, but she doesn’t denounce that side either. Also like I said above, she’s not a sexualized celebrity. She’s pretty but has very little sex appeal which is why she has fans of all ages especially from women

Here we are talking politics

I think you nailed it with that post.

Mid.

No such thing. It’s a made up term in a lame derogatory attempt to describe others.

I agree, but you and I both know what it means even in a casual context

Tell us.

Why? No one has to go see her. Also are her tickets any more expensive than let’s say the Rolling Stones?

Illuminati? Aliens? Deep state?

You enjoyed that didn’t you?

Your assumption you mean. Most of the people I know who are Swifties would not be in that group.

Of course that is just my anecdotal observation. I realize your idea of what demographic is represented in the graphic and mine may also be different.

My daughters are huge fans. We refused to fork up the enormous of money for them to see the concerts. We did fork up the money to see her concert tour movie.
I have listened to quite of her songs and IMO her voice is ok at best. I have been to a ton of concerts and she does not come close to some acts that I have seen. Again IMO what makes Taylor Swift is her ability to cash in, stay relevant/being kept on the front page and most importantly how the Taylor Swift product is marketed.
What she believes in is none of my business. I applaud/admire her for the fact that she did go after her rapist. I hope that guy is rotting in jail somewhere where he deserves to be. He earned it.

Perhaps not the men of that demographic, but Taylor absolutely has a foothold in that demographic for women…

Again, I’m not suggesting that Taylor is a conservative woman, but she’s not denouncing conservatives nor has she ever claimed to identify as liberal.

Taylor Swift is smart and has a really great PR team behind her. Taylor is a white woman that isn’t too weird for conservatives (such as Billie Eilish or Katy Perry). Taylor Swift appeals to the most mainstream of fans which includes those types of conservative women

Taylor is as bland as you can get. Many white women see themselves in Taylor because she looks so normal and isn’t sexualized by the industry…

Can you get off the political horse? some of you can’t help it.

Not trying to get all political, the conversation just kinda went that direction.

Also, the topic of discussion really still lays on Taylor Swift. We’re merely discussing her fanbase

However, I agree it’s skating along those lines so i doubt this thread last more than another day
