Austin Carlisle QB

Horn got dismantled by a team of nearly all 3 stars in the CFP. What are you talking about buddy?

Horns shouldn’t have been in the CFP anyway

We never had those as a G5?

We had one 4 star OL recruit (Na’Ty Rodgers) but he was a juco guy so we only had him for two years. Demetris Dean is our first 4 star OL recruit straight out of high school. On the defensive side we had Ed but that was a pretty clear outlier.

Wasn’t “Pancake” a four star? The OU recruit that we flipped?

High 3 star. Perhaps they gave him a drop after committing because On3, 247, and Rivals show him as a 3 star.

I guess that it depends on where you look, because both of those articles say that he was a four star.

Yah I guess they dropped his rating after he committed to UH. Certainly not the first time that’s happened lol

So
 Fritz IS BETTER!!!

Generally, 5 star players are better than 3 star players, but not always. The thing is when you get 5 star players coached by 5 star coaches in college, you usually have a success. On the other, you could have a 3 star kid that is better than a 5 star kid, but was limited in high school because of poor HS coaching and having teammates that are below par. Now if you take that 3 star player and align him with 5 star college coaches, you have hit the jackpot.

I think we have a 5 star coach in CWF and his staff will lift our 3 star players to higher results.

This is the same formula at UW. I don’t think we’ll be able to reel in all the top talent like horn for at least a decade. But I do believe we can do what UW did, and that’s all you need to compete.

The obsession with stars is like gifting a toddler a corvette. It ain’t gonna drive itself. Lol

The primary difference in a 5* and a 4* is size.

We haven’t? Based on what criteria? 247’s rankings? Because they have us at #29 nationally. Compare that to our past five rankings (not including Fritz’s first year, one in which he only had a few weeks to assemble a class), which are 51, 48, (both the '22 and '23 classes were signed after we had accepted the invitation to the Big 12), 80, 71, and 77. So I’m not sure how you can say we aren’t recruiting better than we were. Clearly we are.

I heard something a long time ago. Sometimes 5* have peaked in high school. Sometimes 3* continue to grow and develop their skills.

Coach Yeoman told me something along that line a long time ago, but instead of stars he said blue chip players and non blue chip players.

That is true. There have been high school athletes whose athleticism are far superior to other high school players, but never work on the technical aspects of their position. That leads to poor work habits when everything comes so easy for the athlete. It is a different story in college and a much different story in the NFL. There is a subset of 5 :star:s who possess incredible athleticism, who are coachable and want to be the best they can be. Three :star:s can very easily surpass 5 :star:s with hard work and the right mindset.

A lot of five stars end up playing like two stars. Watch this video covering TAMU’s “highest ranked class ever” for more context.

**2023: As a junior, threw for 3115 yards, 35 TDs and 6 INTs, and 68.6% completion percentage.
THAT is very Greg Ward-ish.

As a sophomore ran for 618 yards.
You have to love those great percentage passers and high TD:INT ratios.
