AP Top 25: UH is #2 for Week of March 17th - Final AP Regular Season Poll

He was saying that’s what Memphis fans think.

Some folks on this board too, IIRC.

Maybe not threats, but even Pezman himself has said that the Big 12 didn’t want us until Fertitta got two “politicians” involved. The politicians were identified in later reports as Greg Abbott and Dan Patrick.

Political pull did indeed help us get in.

I mean there’s is truth to the fact that Tilman used whatever political capital he had to help. However we didn’t steal a spot from Memphis. The B12 was initially going to only take three teams.

An odd number conference is highly problematic. That’s even dumber than Memphis over Houston.

Don’t want to saw sawdust but the whole thing is laughable and I couldn’t resist. I’m out of things to say about it.

Go Coogs!

Exactly.

That clearly went way over your head. Im saying Memphis truly and I mean truly believe this. Boise State believes this too but with them as the 4th instead of Memphis.

This is comically ridiculous to anyone who actually has seen GP leap lavish praise of our program time after time and be one or the early adopter national commentators hyping up the rebuild that CKS has done here. Y’all gotta get a grip.

Yea, I don’t recall Parrish ever being particularly anti-UH, either…Good call out…he may be a Memphis guy, but I definitely wouldn’t put him in the same breath as, say, Seth Davis!

@olutrain i do agree. Parrish is usually objective. He refernces Torvik, KenPom, NET rankings alot on his podcasts

Most people have us much higher than 21st. I think hes stuck on 0-3 in quad 1.

Parrish, are you watching the games? #1 defense in KenPom, Top 5 3pt shooting team in the country.

Everyone that watches Houston recently, says we’re closer to a top Top10 team, than 20th

Update: Memphis with its terrible loss to Temple, drops 3 spots in Parrish rankings, lol

Case in point again to the rankings.
Memphis had to go to the very end to beat UNT, ECU then lost to Temple.
They should not be ranked by anyone.

Meanwhile another CBS Sports writer, Kyle Boone, has us at #4 in his Power Rankings.

We are moving up in everyone’s rankings, some slower than others. Just have to enjoy seeing the team continue to improve.

They deserved to be dropped in the ranking but I’d still have them ranked. They’ve got really good wins.

My problem, over my head or not, wasn’t with the Memphis fans being delusional about how we got in.

That and maybe dull sarcasm receptors.

The non-conference slate really wasn’t supposed to be chalk full of complete cupcakes to begin with. Weeks before the season began, I wondered if it might have been one of our strongest ever. See below:

…is this the most loaded season schedule in our history?

On top of the gauntlet that is the Big XII conference slate, Coogs are set to face preseason No. 11 Auburn, No. 2 Alabama and No. 25 Rutgers (replaced by San Diego State).

Even the supposed ‘bye’ games feature Louisiana (19-14 last season), Hofstra (20-13), Butler (18-15), Troy (20-12), Toledo (20-12) and A&M-CC (21-12).

Good year to be a season-ticket holder!

Go Coogs!

I mean it’s still not a bad schedule. KP rates it right around 100th for non-conference SOS which is around 20th for P5 programs (top quartile). The only schedule we had that was rated higher was 2019-2020 which was rated 88th.

If he’s basing his rankings on current resume then yeah Memphis has better wins than us. So I don’t see something that’s inconsistent in his methodology. Things will eventually shake out where they should be if we keep handling business.

All three 5-0 teams play road games at 3-2 teams on Saturday:

  • Houston at UCF at 11 AM on CBSSN
  • Arizona at Tech at 1 PM on ESPN2
  • Iowa St at West Va at 4 PM on ESPN Plus

Tech is the only home team favored per KenPom.

Wins and losses don’t always tell the whole story anyway…this is what people sometimes fail to realize. How you do in the games themselves should matter as well.

I get it, the final results are the final results, but losing 74-69 to Auburn is far more impressive than beating North Texas 68-64!

And it completely ignores their losses at home to Arky State and at Temple.
