I’ve started to ignore his content this season.
Maybe I missed the explanation for his version of the rankings but he does it by “power ranking” which I guess means if you didn’t do anything big this week you’re penalized. It seems to be a system driven to generate clicks more than a representation of who he thinks are the best 25 teams.

We lost three one-possession games: two of them to Top 10 teams on neutral courts and another to a SDSU that could make a deep run. Way beyond decent. Butler was decent.

We do have a lot to prove.
But the eyeball test shows that we are better than almost every team in the country….just gotta put it together.
No doubt in my mind Coach will have them humming soon.

We didn’t play a game last week, so maybe that has something to do with it. Maybe Katz would think differently if we had three or four more cream puffs on our schedule to improve our record.
We did play a game….we have played at least one per week on the voting schedule……we have not gone a full week in between poll voting.
We are ranked on reputation right now. Katz is awful but its not crazy to have us unranked.

Butler is currently a quad 3 win for us. The problem is we’re currently 0-2 in Q1 and 1-1 in Q2. This will resolve itself when we get into conference play in a couple weeks.

I don’t particularly agree with a top-37 ranking. We lost to two top-5 teams in the last few seconds, and we also lost to a different top-20 team on a missed free throw—those are our “cons.”
However, we blew out Butler, a team with multiple wins over opponents ranked. I’m not saying Butler is a world-beater, but they aren’t scrubs either. Notre Dame, Troy, and Hofstra are also respectable teams.
For context, KenPom has Troy ranked higher than Seton Hall, who is 7-4 and Rutgers’ second-best win.
Based on our full résumé, we’re a top-25 team. If you add asterisks like “you have a top-25 win, and the rest are meaningless” (with no gray area for quality), or if you disregard how the games are played, then sure, we’re not a top-25 team. But every computer metric still has us in the top 10, including the NET rankings, which don’t factor in previous years’ history like KenPom does.
