We Are Regressing

Sampsons first year you could see it. He had nothing talent-wise but they had that same chip on their shoulder they do today. Cwf I see none of that. Just the right words.

Sad but true. KHOU 11 sports had in this order UT, A$M, SHSU, SHSU, TSU. HCO then U of H on for high lights tonight. We were last and all that was reported U of H lost 20 - 0 to ISU. Sad that our program has regressed not even to show a post game presser.

Defense is very respectable (or tends to be)
Offense and FG kicking are flat out awful.

the defense at least came to play this week and did everything they could to keep it close

the offense on the other hand… wouldn’t be shocked if the basketball team got more conference wins than consecutive quarters the football team gets shutout especially if we get blanked again vs tcu lmao

Coogfans weren’t sold on Sampson until after 5th season

We are regressing on offense. Defense improved. Special teams was okay. Offense is abysmal. Just not sure what the root of the problem is. Combination of bad coaching and bad QB but which is more to blame?

Defense has improved greatly. As for the offense, as far as I can see it, the offensive line is non-existent. If you don’t have an o line then neither your running or passing game is going to work. It has been slightly better than what we all saw opening night against UNLV when I would have sworn their d line was lining up in our backfield prior to the snap. I have wondered this season is if a part of the decision to keep starting Smith is that he is the most physically capable of taking the beating inherent with the job right now? I say that somewhat jokingly. I wish the coaching staff would give Ale a shot at it but that doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen. Anyway, I expected this to be a long season (didn’t expect it to be this bad) but I am willing to give coach Fritz a pass by and large on it. I will wait to see what next year’s recruiting class looks like and I do expect to see a hell of a lot of improvement over what we are being offered right now. If not, then I will join the chorus of “what the…!?”

which coogfans? almsot everyone was sold on him way before then…we had back to back NIT year 2 and 3… our best back to back years in close to 30 years by the metrics (At that time)… we were a tourney team in year 4 and 5, why wouldnt we be sold on him by year 4 and 5?
also sampson was very good at vocalizing the short comings of the team in the lack of facilities.

the critics of sampson in those 1st 2years was calling for brooks to be fired to bring back a maligi kinda of coach who was elite at recruiting… we were just barely missed the NIT with unwanted Juco, many felt we’d take off if we just found a way to get good recruits

This is a lie. The majority were on board fast. Especially with his resume at Oklahoma and Indiana and having coaching experience in the NBA when Kevin Mchale wasnt available.

I’m sure attendance will reflect that.
Amyway i remember people were giving him one more year to make the tournament after year three and people weren’t sold on his recruiting

I don’t recall how many years it took to get the fans on board the Sampson era but I do recall that season tickets were only $100.00 a piece. Yes that’s right, season tickets were offered at $100.00 to begin the Sampson era and Hofheinz was still mostly empty.

You are right about that, but it will come at a steep cost. We will lose a handful of players like Holmes, Jenkins, Wilson and others. People will attribute it to NIL, but it’s clear, like Golden, they simply don’t trust the coach and would rather play for a current winner.

Buckle up, this sucky season will yeild another mass exodus further perpetuating the “cupboard is bare” cycle.

That is exactly what I’ve been trying to say.

You don’t rebuild in college football…and especially not in a transfer heavy NIL world.

There are no incentives for losing. You don’t get the #1 draft pick, as in the pros, and in today’s game even a recruit is only obligated to be here for one year.

Actually, less than one year if they deem the situation so hopeless that they redshirt and.start looking for their next spot.

And losing, in incompetent fashion, loses some recruits you thought you secured!

CDH conned Tilman with a Rebuilding plan and then CWF did the same.

There is no benefit for losing. If your offense is not good…then start running creative trick plays to make something happen.

That debacle at the end of the 1st half, with 3 timeouts, told me all I need to know about CWF’s desire to win the game.

Either that or he is a very scared coach and is dealing with imposter syndrome right now…as in, he didn’t believe his team could manage a 1 minute drill

Any examples with fired coaches?

Maybe Curt Cignetti, the old JMU coach at Indiana He’s continued doing well. They won at UCLA with a very strong fan turnout. IU is 5-0 but not yet ranked. Curt is 63 years old.

Which post are you referring to?

The one about how great JMU is.

Can you quote it and specify which part? I’m not understanding what you’re asking.

Click on your icon on my post. Top right corner of post.

List first year coaches who took over for fired coaches who are doing well.

So you didn’t want a rebuild? You just wanted to keep going with what CDH had going? Because that was so successful?

We are not schools like Michigan or Ohio State that don’t rebuild they reload. Similar to where the basketball program is now. It took Sampson a couple of 2-3 years to get things rolling. That’s with a team that has only 15 players. It’s a lot more difficult when you have 85. Can you at least give CWF more that 4 games?
