Coach Hughey resigns.
You can fire him if he quits before he gets fired.
Glad to hear. They were never going to sniff .500 with him.
i dont have an ON3 subscription but they made a list of who they think we mightd target

I’d be good with Kelsi Musick from Oral Roberts, Lindy La Rocque from UNLV, or Molly Miller from Grand Canyon. All three of them beat more power conference teams than we did this season.
The women’s sports programs need NIL funding, but I don’t see that happening anytime in the near future.
I won’t paste the article here but here are some of the names:
Karen Aston, UTSA
Jason Burton, North Texas
Kelsi Musick, Oral Roberts
Elena Lovato, Texas associate head coach
Ayla Guzzardo, Southeastern Louisiana
Lindy La Rocque, UNLV
Aaron Johnston, South Dakota State
Shannon LeBeauf, UCLA associate head coach
Kris Gardner with HRR was teasing much bigger names and from much bigger programs than those here. Will be interesting to see how things play out.
all aren’t bad
iffy:
Elena Lovato, Texas associate head coach – not enough experience at winning imo, 3 year AHC of a dominant texas team nothing crazy notable prior - was a former houston assistant in 08… – would be okay if she can guarantee recruits (has ties to recruits)
Ayla Guzzardo, Southeastern Louisiana - meh - great year but 19-12 last year
Shannon LeBeauf, UCLA associate head coach - 13 years as a ucla assistant from a traditionally ranked team, noted as a good recruiter
Jason Burton, North Texas - 10 year d2 coach, okay at first but had them dominant towards the end… has UNT nit calibur in first 2 years (best 2 years in program history)
the Safe picks- regularly making the tournament is enough
Karen Aston, UTSA - took over horrendous level UTSA. in 4 years built a great team 26-3 . 10 year HC of texas prior… regular top 3 in the big 12. not their new coach did better than her
Aaron Johnston, South Dakota State - took over a progran with no major funding and has had them dominant for almost 25 years. context they are always very good, but never do anything in the tournament… how much of that is the programs limitations and how much is him
intriguing:
Kelsi Musick, Oral Roberts- Dominant D2 run very similar to jason but her D2 teams were a little bit better … 3 years at ORU… took them to the NIT year 2 … has them 22-7 so far this year (likely NIT- South dakota expect to get auto bid)
Lindy La Rocque- played 4 years for some dominant Stanford teams, Assistant for some dominant stanford team (4 years). took over UNLV complete conference dominance since she took the job (best regular season run in program history), but has 1st round exited every year… but its still early in her career- and was a low seed (from conference)
Ayla Guzzardo would be kinda disappointing, basically hiring her for 1 year off success in a weaker league
I can honestly get excited about the remaining 7 i like some more than others, but you could get excited about all 7
This list isn’t that impressive and I think I rather have one of the top HS girls coaches than most listed.
he noted names not program … he kept saying “names everyone knows”… no one knows any womens coaches names besides the 3 hall of famers who arent coming here… imo it felt like he was referencing WNBA stars that could be interested Sheryl Swoopes, Candace Parker and Tamika Catchings type players … that was the vibe i got
Aaron Johnston is a very sampson like hire… almost 20 years straight of postseason appearances …covid was the only time since 2007 he didnt make a post season… with south dakota state funding…he has lost 1 conference games in the last 5 years , 81-1
Lindy La Rocque, as a players (stanford), as a assistant coach (Stanford/Belmont) as a head coach (UNLV) has no idea what 3rd place or lower feels like… has always been top 2
there are some disappointing names like Ayla Guzzardo, and some that feel a little too early in their career like Jason Burton, but the overall list doesnt feel too bad…
but i would love to bring so local coaches onto to the staff for sure in some capacity. especially if the coach has no texas ties
He did both. He said notable coaches at current P4 programs. Last time I checked UTSA, UNLV, Oral Roberts, UNT, SELA and North Dakota State aren’t in the P4. Don’t think that list matches the profile of the names he’s hearing about.
Speak for yourself, man. He obviously was talking about people who actually follow the sport that know more than just Staley, Geno and Mulkey.
Carly Thibault - DuDonis
Assistant coach to Vic Schaefer(coach at UT Longhorns) when he was at Miss St… was top assistant when the Bulldogs lost in the NCAA Championship game 2 yrs in a row. Head coach at Fairfield. Made NCAA Tournament last year and is strong favorite to make NCAA Tournament this year.
James Dickey?
I hear a lot about recruiting and NIL but that guy seems more like a “system” coach. I guy that constructs his kind of team and grinds it out. He must love it up there to stay so long.
I hope we choose Kelsi Musick for no reasons whatsoever.
Aaron Johnston sounds good to me!
No assistant coaches or assistant HCs please.
