UH has to be the worst at letting others use their stuff.
I went on fanatics looking for stuff and we don’t even come up anymore on their list. You have to put show all 351 schools
Went to folo or something similar looking for a bag. Only the most common schools have stuff
Went to 3 different academies. None of them have any good stuff available.
Went to bkstr website and it’s all generic and none of the good stuff.
When are we going to let businesses use our stuff to sell. This is stupid
I still can’t believe how much oilers stuff I saw at academy. We should’ve had that stuff ready to sell. Just like that one year we had the throw backs when we should’ve had stuff to sell but didn’t. Or that stupid paw hat that they did completely wrong and with some off brand material.
Here’s why I say this. I have 2 of those hoodies. I bought them 3 years ago. There’s no way they’re trying to play us like that.

I have noticed fanatics will switch that up sometimes. Must have an algorithm that shows based on sales. Sometimes it comes up in the top list.
As far as Academy, it depends on the location but check it online.
Really the problem isn’t UH restricting the logo, it is an issue with demand and the store buyers. I have a thread in Football and one in Basketball where I find stuff for sale. There are some good things out there, we just have to do a bit more work to find it.
It’s more of an indictment of our fans and performance than marketing. Last year the Texans had WAY less merchandise than now. Any buyer who doesn’t buy to demand won’t be around long.
Just win baby.
Yup, Academy must not know what they are doing. Went public November 2022 at $13.00 per share. Currently selling at $49.50 when many retailers declining in sales. Again, on our fan base more than Academy.
I posted this over the summer but the Meyerland Academy had like 10 racks of Cougar gear (half the racks labeled Texans were actually Cougar gear)… compared to one rack each for Texas and A&M.
Academy used to be a customer of mine, managers have a lot of autonomy. If disappointed when you go to a store, say something. They stock what is asked for.

Good read. Maybe if more fans actually walked into their local merchants and bought what they thought quality, they would stock more. Way too easy to just push a button and then complain.
Yeah, this is a lot of the issue. I feel like a lot of UH merch gets manufactured, but so much of it is hot garbage, and a lot of it comes down to the fact that whoever’s in charge of merchandising at UH either has no clue how to make our various marks look good, or has no interest in doing so. This coog paw cap is a great example:
The paw is way too large and way too round, especially when contrasted with the much better version of the same thing that Dana was wearing on the sideline at the time:
This wasn’t something that was hard to get right. Just release the dang hat. It’s not that complicated.
Not to mention, there are still items at the campus store with the beveled logo a solid 4+ years after it was officially sunset. It feels like UH just tells large retailers to slot our logos and branding in on whatever paint-by-numbers merchandise they have and leaves it at that.

Generally speaking UH does approve the logos and stuff but as long as it fits the brand standards, they will approve it. They arent going to look at the aesthetics, most of the designs are done by the manufacturers and buyers either take it or they don’t.
When I was a buyer (for Brother’s), I would be more into customizing some stuff and came up with a few of my own concepts (someone else executed the art). However it was small scale and easy for me to do especially when I had an interest. If you’re the buyer for Academy, you just don’t have that kind of time or interest.
But the things I really customized or conceptualized were generally only a handful of what I bought. Usually they were ideas I stole from elsewhere like some shirts I saw at the mall that weren’t collegiate merch. Most I picked stuff from the vendors but would choose which designs and such from their catalog or samples.
Yeah, I’m seeing more and more of these upper fashion brands carry a collegiate line and schools like UCF & SMU have a collection, but we don’t. I asked Jack Mason why didn’t we have a watch, but lesser known schools do & they told me it was a licensing issue. They tried with no success.

I see Johnnie-O, Peter Millar (have had UH for a long time), Tommy Bahama and Onward Reserve. I never heard of Onward Reserve before but their stuff has similar retail price as those others.
Additionally, both Antigua and Cutter and Buck have UH licenses and have stuff for sale online that is basically factory direct embroidered to order (so to speak).
Also can get some high end watches with UH if you’re interested.
Here’s links to my thread in basketball of UH stuff. Some items are not available anymore and some might not be available from the vendor I posted but I might be able to find it elsewhere.
I will add a link to the one in football in a bit.
