Hyped! Can anyone explain what schemes they expect from our new OC and DC?
I’m ready, let’s go!!!
For those complaining about losing Early, go read Chantham’s background on Tulane’s coaches board or when he is added to our coaching staff. It will ease your mind.
I was watching clips of Tulane’s Cotton Bowl Win.
Tulane was down by 15 with about 4 mins left to play in the 4th quarter. And won.
They kept fighting and showed absolutely no quit. Now, that’s competitive football.
I believe that teams that can’t run will lose. So I am energized knowing we’re going to go forward on the ground, the way champion-level programs do it. I also think the run is more exciting than the pass. The best thing about this staff is its core philosophies: master the basics, limit mistakes in all three aspects, and play every play like it’s the last one of the season. I’m sleeping better these days.
Continuity will certainly be a plus’! I think bringing his guys is a good plan. It requires less rebuilding. Staff changes can be addressed in future seasons as they are needed.
After reading Gerald Chatman Bio I say Early who ? Gerald is a hell of a coach and I am glad we have him !
Go Coogs !
Tulane this season:
32nd total defense
7th rush defense
90th pass defense
24th 4th down defense
26th team sacks
68th total offense
67th rushing offense
69th passing offense
67th 3rd down conversion pct
67th sacks allowed
UH this season:
112th total defense
98th rush defense
116th pass defense
116th 4th down defense
57th team sacks
83rd total offense
104th rushing offense
53rd passing offense
87th 3rd down conversion pct
83rd sacks allowed
Defense will be good, overall offense will be something to keep an eye on. We should be in more close games compared to this season’s blowout losses with Dana.

If Fritz & staff were guiding Coog football in 2023, we would be 8-4 instead of 4-8.
He wins the close games, maybe we beat UT.
Our problem wasn’t close games this year. 3-2 isn’t bad and hard to consistently expect much better. Win them all and we are still only 6-6 and viewed as one of the luckiest teams in college football.
I’d argue our problems are more about lack of identity, focus, preparation, talent at certain positions, and player development.
The good news is Fritz is great in most of those areas.
I love how they seem committed to doing the little things the right way so that all the big things work out in the same way.
We should be in play for Tulane’s transfers and high school recruits now
Shiel apparently prefers the 3-4. I’m a big fan of it. However he also runs whats called a “pyramid” that places the 3rd LB in the middle behind the other two. Looking at the photos it appears the middle LB covers the strong side with the DE/T to protect against the run. One thing’s for certain. A 7th ranked run defense with a 3-4 set must be fast as all get out.
Mean the DL will be BIG.
An total offensive rating in the 60’s doesn’t bother me when you factor in how difficult it must be to recruit big, talented OL to that little school. If it were in the 80’s I’d be a bit concerned.
I see the 90th ranked pass D as a bit of a concern but when you look at Willie’s run D (7th) it explains almost everything.
In his speech he said he wanted to beat the other team rushing, even if “by 1 yard.” His data reflects a very good win % when his team does that.
So at 23-4 over the last two seasons it looks like that philosophy is working.
Is Corby Meekins retained?
Don’t ever want to see our players with girlie legs again. My calves are better defined than some of our players. I am a coach potato.
Soft girly team.
Ok with Fritz cleaning house . These new guys need to teach and ensure physical superiority, toughness, discipline, running the ball and tackling.
Most of all no more sloth.
We all agree to that, but 'ya know, I thought whoever came up with that name for our magnificent offense was some kind of genius. A perfect description.
