Transfer portal news 3.0

@pesik i think its just the staff philosophy.

Could we get upgrades, for Ramons spot, for Francis spot in the portal. Of course

But, the new guys you’re bringing, who knows what type of attitudes they’ll have. Who knows if they’ll accept their role. It’s hard to keep a “Culture” in place with so much roster turnover.

Francis and Ramon, even though their ppg, are quite low, this will be their 3rd yr in program. They know the culture.

I don’t think we have enough NIL $$ to attract a player we’ve never recruited before. So Nelson and Kaluma, probably no chance. The NIL offers they’re getting im sure are ridiculous

Cryer we recruited hard during HS. So we had that relationship

What in the heck does Ramon bring to the table a second grader could dive on the floor for a ball too.

im not even noting big fish, ive been pretty set in reality that getting a notable big might be hard…
but id have taken a dandrige quality big … jamille reynolds… Russel Tchewa
those werent NIL heavy weights, they were probably people in this forum debating that they werent good

his scouting report is very similar to kord in what they do… i just dont see a way kord is above him in the depth chart atleast to start the year

Does roster locked in mean there’s no mystery 4 we are waiting on to enter portal after all?

Some will continue putting their foot down just to attempt to let everyone know they were not wrong.
Either you believe in family environment and promote it or you do not. I am sure some will insist on taking my comment overboard but it is that simple.

We will bring in players for a particular purpose, not someone who is going to compete against one who has been developing for 2-3 years in the program.
Disagree wholeheartedly on Dandridge being a fit here.
I am looking forward to the development of Francis and Roberts who can form a much better tandem than given credit for by some on this board.
Sharp and TA are going to be lethal and I believe TA can be one of the top 2 way players in the conference.
We know Shead is going to be real good and Cryer can be a great voice in the locker room with his Big 12 experience. Dunn is going to be a tremendous glue guy who will be thrilled to be in our program.
Before everyone dismisses JoJo he doesn’t need to do anything but learn the D rotations and rebound. He can be a force off the bench grabbing the offensive boards.

We have scoring and the rest will be about playing to our culture.

sampson hinted as such… but made a vague reference to a big player we had lined up that we dont have the NIL backing to get… maybe thats who they were referencing

I love me some three guard lineups….been rolling that way for years in regards to my own coaching.

If you are so clueless why even speak? Try reading, listening and maybe learning
Your comment is one a 2nd grader might make.

So Tillman made some kind of statement when Alto left about how we were not going to let a kid get away because of NIL.

Not the exact same thing but I would think Tillman/or some other big donor would have the same attitude regarding basketball.

He also said “We ALL have to step up…”

Yes.

I will be in the games and will enjoy some guard play, other than that I am not looking forward to anything. There will be Ls and Ws. This is not kids league. You need the horses. Development is a great word for AAC and we shall see if it remains for b12.

without adding anyone
sharps, arc and jwans improvements have gone from a “nice to have” to a mandatory

jwan will not be a threat as a shooter, but shooting atleast midranges 1 or 2 times a game is mandatory for spacing

sharp is the only potential high level shooter outside of cryer. he might be the biggest winner in not adding anyone, had a legit offensive big been add, i think the 3 spot could have been focused on D (like arc or ramon)… with no shooting from the 4 ot 5, the point not being a great shooter , and the other backup guards not being great shooter … you have to play sharp heavily, and hope he is a flamethrower (counter ramon is the biggest loser, i cantt imagine any lineup with him and this roster outside of small back where its not bad offensively)

the only chance at floor spacing for this team that is legit, it has to come from TA… the only potential “big” with real shooting threat for next year… but the scared offense he played last year has to die… he has to be a quick trigger shooter & a blow by driver on slow bigs… his current pumpfake to pass any big in the nation can defend

small ball is supposed to be a double edge sword, you get the leverage in the post but your bigs can guard us on the perimeter… we used small as a sword that only points at the user… there is no actual benefit to us being small, its not like miami with jordan miller…we just have small players trying to play tradtional big roles…TA and roberts have to change that

@NeilC Coach sees our program as a “Development” program. Which i like. Guys sticking around 2-3 yrs at least

Other schools, some in the Big 12, have gone all transfers, very few freshmen. In a Win-Now mode

Didn’t work for Texas Tech last yr. Going that route

When coach says Tugler needs to play this yr…

Well alot of us said the same thing about Arceneaux last yr.

Now, Arceneaux got experience which will help him in Year 2, but, as a true freshman he was not a force off the bench. And having an experienced guard, no doubt could’ve helped last yrs team

Would it have helped against Miami? Maybe. We had to play Shead, Sasser, Mark alot of minutes last yr, because our bench was weak. Defensively, if we had another guard (like a Jarreau type) who could chase Nigel Pack around ball screens, maybe different outcome

This yr, we have more guard depth, the question is the forwards. This group of forwards is the least experienced we’ve had in yrs. Talented, but not experienced

worked for miami and kstate

Berman quoted the NIL part from the interview

I’ll say this cuz of hearing and listening are 2 different things.

IFFFFFFF…Grant Nelson withdraws from the draft and has interest, do you think CKS would NOT fill that 13th slot???

And the other part of hearing vs. listening, when Hunter committed to KU, players left AFTERwards as CKS noted.

After May 18, 2023…if a player decides to transfer here to play in 2023-24, WHO would have to leave from the roster??? Answer THAT first…

Nate

I like to think of it as CKS being a good steward of the available NIL funds. He is not going to throw NIL money at just anybody. BMDs like the fact that CKS is selective in who he brings in.

the fact that sampson noted we missed out an player for NIL reasons shows we were willing to bring someone in…
he also noted the roster isnt perfect in the interview but you have to bank on development

what i got from that is, if someone great wants to come here for something affordable we will do it and bring them in… but we arent in heavy pursuit of anyone else…
