I watched a lot of his games and he still has the issue of not getting his offensive in the flow. It wasn’t his fault the team was a mess but he definitely shouldn’t be your #1 guy unless the whole team is built around him offensively.
Meanwhile, Kentucky is in the process of losing their entire team to the portal. Someone will be getting a very good freshman point guard in Boogie Fland.
Someone with a large, well funded NIL program.
Mark is a beast lol. Just because he left, doesn’t mean we can’t acknowledge that fact.
Agreed.
Obviously there were other issues at Arkansas but I did not see anything where I thought “wow he is really putting the team on his back”.
Many games he disappeared….IMO
What makes you say “he is a beast”?
I saw nothing from his past season to indicate he was anything approaching that level.
To me a “beast” is a guy that comes in and can consistently dominate on both ends of the floor….someone that can really impact the game.
I saw great spurts or moments from Mark but nothing extraordinary.
He had that game against the aggies where he went for 35 including the go ahead bucket with 1 second left.
Question. What guys in the portal did you want him over?
And to be honest, EVERY player gets beat by a pick. That’s not fair to Uzan. It’s all about what is the help defender on the pick/switch doing. But you should know that.
Nate
Mid range Mark is an analytical nightmare. Didn’t care to watch any of his Arkansas games and certainly won’t be following him at UT but the number of times he was only a step or two in front of the 3 point line and taking those long 2’s for us drove me crazy. To his credit, he can get hot like he did against auburn or whoever in the tournament but The only guy I really enjoyed taking those long 2’s was Fabian White because he was so consistent hitting those.
I didn’t listen to a ton of the talking heads after the UCONN vs Purdue game but it sounds like UCONN’s plan was to cut off Purdue’s 3 pointers and make Edey 2 point them to death which worked out well for UCONN. I felt Duke did the same to us taking away the outside shot and was going to make us earn it inside.
It isn’t a “silly question” if, like me, you’ve been around UH basketball long enough to learn (the hard way) that highly touted transfers sometimes don’t meet expectations and, in fact, turn out to essentially be duds. The latest example of this is Damian Dunn. His leaving now amounts to addition by subtraction.
Perhaps the foremost example of a highly touted transfer turning out to be quite underwhelming (to put it nicely) was Braxton Clark. He was a big man who had been the national junior college scoring champion averaging 35 points per game while playing in his home state of California when he transferred to UH in the waning days of Phi Slama Jama. The ultimate goal was that he would replace Akeem when Akeem turned pro. What happened instead is that Clark and Benny Anders mutinied and (temporarily) quit the team because they felt that Coach Lewis wasn’t giving them enough playing time. The following excerpt from Sports Illustrated explains it this way:
"Given how poorly Clark has performed for the Cougars, Lewis was saving Clark
embarrassment by keeping him on the bench. “He can’t jump, rebound or play
defense,” says Kevin Sherrington, of The Houston Post. “Nobody knows if he can
shoot because he can’t fire his flat-footed jumper without having to eat it [having it
blocked].”
And, as someone who saw Clark play, it was true. Clark couldn’t or wouldn’t jump. On average he only snagged 4 rebounds a game. He also shot FTs at 55%. Yet, when he first arrived at UH he was presented to all of us as being the Second Coming of the Messiah. That turned out to be the only “silly” part.
UT’s roster so far is going to be really weird. Looks like they don’t have anyone who shot 3s in any kind of significant amount. None of their guards on the roster made more than 1 three per game and none of them shot more than 3 per game. And the big-time freshman who is coming in has a scouting report that says he likes to shoot mid range as well (never actually seen him play, this is based on a couple scouting reports I read) so they are going to be basing their entire offense on midrange shooting. I can’t figure out who their forwards are going to be either, apparently Mitchell is going to test the NBA waters and all they have besides that is Shedrick who averages 3 rebounds per game. So they have a roster full of guards that don’t shoot 3s and a single big man who can’t rebound…that’s rough, I can’t imagine them being very good next season
Not in the portal, but I’d have wanted a more established offensive piece like wade taylor or dedan
How about Javon Small @pesik
No hate on Wade or Dedan but i think coach didnt want to go small again in the backcourt. I think iowa St kinda exposed that.
Former projected #1 Pick, PG DJ Wagner enters the portal
What if boogie fland wanted to come Houston? Do they make room
Mid.
Bye bye Ramon Walker.
Sampson does, that’s why we got him. You don’t come here otherwise.
Can you imagine DJ Wagner at point guard for UH I’m just dreaming
