At some point, it will bite us against better teams.
I wouldn’t be surprised if teams now start to load up the box and cheat up the safeties to dare Chriss to beat them with his arm.

Offense is a year 2 thing. Culture, fundamentals and defense is a year one thing.

Speaking of fundamentals, two of the things that were harped upon was discipline, and ball security, and how they would be prioritized. Last season, we were the 59th most penalized team in college football. This year so far, we are the 60th most penalized team. Last season we were ranked 45th in the country with 1.3 turnovers (giving the ball up) per game. This season so far we are ranked 116 in the country with 1.9 turnovers per game. There are four remaining games for those numbers to possibly improve for the season, but so far we are worse than last year in both categories.

I did love me some art belies football. Some of the losses were head scratchers. And some of the wins were ugly. The ugly wins beat losing and were entertaining.

The improvement in penalties over the last three games has been huge.
Penalties in the first five games: The Cougars started the season with 38 penalties.
Penalties in the last three games: The Cougars have been called for 12 penalties in the last three games.
Penalties against Utah: The Cougars had a season-low three penalties for 30 yards against Utah.

When I attended UH we lead the Nation in Total Offense and in Rushing Offense. The Veer.
UH again lead Nation in Total Offense with Run-N-Shoot. Then when Keenum was our QB.
To go from that history to being dead last is beyond astonishing. It is mind-boggling.

START to load up the box?
Utah had 10 guys within 5 yards of the LOS the entire game. And we still ran for 228 yards and 4.6 ypc.
I wanted to see slants, seam routes, and long passes all game…then we threw a couple for TDs.
Out of the 6 completions, two were for TDs.

Reinds me of playing Navy. Every so often they’d throw a bomb and we wouldn’t have anyone in the zip code to cover.
We don’t throw bombs, but any pass is out of the norm.
