The case to ditch the EC

Not as far fetched as some want to make it

Ain’t happening.

As I said, ya need 3/4 of the states, and NO small population state is going to give up the outsized influence that the electoral college gives them.

That is to say
EVEN IF you can get 2/3 of both Houses to say yes (which is doubtful in and of itself).

I don’t think we’ll ditch it, but I’ve seen several pundits on both sides advocate for a modified EC. The winner take all approach is deeply flawed and based on the 3/5 compromise.

Break the votes up into districts that fairly represent a constituency. Why should voters in Bakersfield have no say in who gets elected president? Right now, they have no say. Break up the EC into districts, suddenly Central California is a formidable voting block, one that would help the G.O.P.

Much more fair than the antiquated EC, IMO.

False. We’ve been over this multiple times now.

PS Stating, ‘oh well that will never get passed in enough states’ doesn’t make your previous post not false.

You need 3/4 of the states to amend the Constitution.

Not happening.

And what you described will never pass in any states other than reliably blue ones.

Won’t change a thing.

Just a sorry attempt to do an “end run” around the Constitution and the Electoral College, and it could backfire for the reliably blue states that pass it.

I saw somebody refer to the EC as DEI for hillbillies, and I’ll never not think of it that way again.

Jason the only thing keeping CA from doing this is CA liberals running the state government. 2 states already award EC votes by congressional districts.

California dems would be foolish to change unless states equal to their size, at least, made the same change.

Because of Gerrymandering, I’m not in favor of doing it by Congressional districts in there current form.
One vote should count as a vote in the general election for President. Every American’s vote should have the same value. As Conservatives love to say, “its just common sense”

It has to be nationwide. The previous ballot measure wanted to actually split the state up into 5 states. It was a full on quack move. California Democrats won’t budge until this is adopted nationwide would be my guess.

But guess what, my example worked. If this were implemented nationwide, would you be in favor? I would.

Now do Texas. I’m gonna assume the Republicans would do the same to block districts getting too much (D) representation.

So Geezer, the only thing preventing Texas from doing the same thing is the same thing preventing California from doing it.

I’m definitely not in favor of using congressional districts. Those are gerrymandered as hell.

No, we need a non-partisan system set up by fair distribution of population centers. Congressional representation does NOT do this right now. But LAND does also not vote, nor should it.

Split the winner take all votes up. Be like Nebraska. Be like Maine.

Make the candidates earn all of our votes, not just those of the a-hole swing states that our entire political future depend on.

Let the rural communities have their voice, let the cities have theirs.

Yes haw, and God Bless Texas!!

Yes haw, And God Bless Texas

I agree that congressional districts are to gerrymandered so give each county in the country one electorial vote. Don’t throw stones, I know that’s just as unfair to cities as popular vote is to rural areas. There is no solution to this to be found on this board

I disagree. I didn’t pull my system I proposed out of my rear. I’ve read it and heard it discussed way more than once.

That’s the thing, if you discount all the idiots here, you discount the good that comes with all the bad we’re aware of.

It’s also why the truth matters.

How bout we just count each American vote the same?

Now Jason you are the one calling others names, you complained about that before. “Your truth” is not the only truth. The EC is just fine and most fair to the complexity of different factions of the country. That’s my truth. We are never going to agree and that’s why I said there’s no solution to be found on this board

They are

If you are just going to make up stuff, then there is no reason to engage.
65 percent of Americans disagree with your assessment of the EC. Americans want a solution that makes their votes count. It sucks to know if you’re not in a swing state, your vote doesn’t matter.
Time to get rid of this archaic system that disenfranchises Americans

I disagree.

Before I go on any further, let me ask you this. Why do you think people have historically voted republican
. say
. in Texas?
