In 2017 someone committed suicide from Agnus. It’s turning into one of those buildings that’s becoming a hazard for students even if it is open and airy. I took a bunch of classes there when i was enrolled. I think they should look into building a new building.
Give me a break, Agnes Arnold is a perfectly good building. If a kid is going to commit suicide he will and the building has nothing to do with it.
Exactly…pretty soon we’ll be tearing all the buildings and parking garages down…they’re building with height…sadly conducive to suicide.
Have you been in Agnus the last 5 years?? It’s definitely not. Also, if that were true the would commit suicide in another building. 2 is definitely not a coincidence.
Are you saying that if that building was torn down…suicide by jumping would be a thing of the past…come on man
This happened when I was at UH in the mid 80’s. It happened when my son was there 2016-20. And now when my daughter is there. She texted me this morning about it. So sad.
No but it would be harder to for it to happen. Agnus is 6 stories and 7 with the basement. 8 if you count the roof which probably doesn’t have access. That’s the tallest building you can have access to openly without windows. A lethal fall is 5 stories and above. Idk of anywhere else that could happen other than the new law building.
Quick fix would be to put bars or metal panels to cover the open parts to allow air to flow.
Long term would be to remake the building how it was stated on the master plan.
You don’t have to tear down the building. There are plenty added safety measure that could be added to minimize how much open ledge space the building has. Would certainly at least be worth looking into.
Unless it’s changed, the sixth floor stairwell of S&R I had an open ledge. That’s how we used to get on the roof. Step from the stairwell ledge to the roof ledge… Six floors up.
I’m anxious just thinking about you guys hopping onto the roof from there.
The architecture building has a 4 story atrium. I’m surprised it’s not used. Although I’ve seen plenty of students die in the jury rooms.
Yeah definitely too young and dumb to be scared back then. It was really just as easy as stepping a foot or two… but no way in hell you’d catch me doing it today.
The payoff was great, though. Beautiful views of the city and nice cool breezes.
The problem is the people that don’t listen to reason.
Plenty of other buildings and parking garages to off yourself if you want to. Including the football stadium which is pretty easy to get into.
When TDECU Stadium was almost completed, before the first game, a girl snuck in and climbed up the speakers/video screen and jumped to her death.
Someone jumped off a garage a couple years ago. The stadium before that. I have a picture on my phone looking down on moody towers that I took from a construction crane. I’ve been on top of the graduate lofts. I’ve also been on top of the video board in the stadium. If someone wants to jump there are plenty of options. The school sits in a large city. People wanting to protest the university because someone decided to take their own life is bonkers. Sometimes tragedies happen and it’s no one’s fault and nothing can be done.
Was that one confirmed as a suicide? I remember a rumor that that one was an accident; that shewas up there for non-suicide reasons and just fell.
Well, we have more dorms on campus don’t we? You’ll probably see more of this.
