I remember after losing a million dollars in the first year, a lady reporter asked Lamar Hunt, âHow long can you stand to lose money like this?â Hunt replied, âA thousand years I guess.â The lady was stunned.
Amy Adams has done a ton to bring back those Oiler alums. I have nothing but love for her giving those old Oiler players a place to tip their cap to a crowd. For 20 years, those players who wore and Oilers uniform for most of their careers never had an appreciation weekend or an event to get together and talk about the glory days. Not one sponsored by an NFL franchise. That sucks.
Everyone is approaching this with a false dichotomy. There is a third option here and everyone wins. Why donât the McNairâs pick up the phone and call Amy Adams and work with the Titans organization to do a reunion/ceremony when the Titans come to Houston? Pay them a nice fee to host the event, let the Titans wear the throwbacks at NRG and us old Oiler fans get the best of both worlds.
What the hell is wrong with working together so everyone wins?
I would legitimately be ok if the Texans traded a first rounder to the Titans for the rights to the Oilers history. Those uniforms are throwbacks for them, but a part of the culture in Houston. Those records are owned by the Titans, but made in this city.
The legality of franchise ownership, and sentiment of cultural ownership are two different things.
John McClain has never been high in my book, so this latest take of his is not surprising.
Tennessee wearing Oilers uniforms against the home team in Houston would not be everyone wins. That would suck.
John McClown
Why would it suck? The Texans organization does not own the rights to the Oilers or the uniforms. Amy Adams grew up on the Oilers and sheâs made things right for the former players.
The things being suggested here about buying out the rights are never going to happen, so why be bent about the Titans wearing the throwbacks over us in our stadium? That shows respect and appreciation for our city and our fans.
I guess⊠Could be considered throwing it in our face that the Adams family took the Oilers away from HoustonâŠ
If the Oilers belonged in Tennessee then theyâd still be the Oilers⊠Ask the Browns fans where the Oilers belongâŠ
This
I would see it as a disrespectful reminder that they took the name and under no conditions would give it back.
The ravens / browns got it done.
Not to me. Doing it here is the what makes the most sense. How many Oiler fans you know that moved from Houston to Nashville? How many in attendance at Nissan Field would really appreciate the throwbacks versus them wearing them here?
Like I said, I think you do it big. A primetime game at NRG with Titans wearing the Oiler unis with a ceremony at halftime with as many former oiler greats as possible and a video of Oiler highlights on the giant screen. Have Warren Moon perform the coin toss.
Hand out special programs with Amy Adams and Cal McNair holding an Oilers helmet on the cover. Hand out special towels with one side having Luv Ya Blue on one side and Texans logo on the other.
I would go to that game. And that is saying a lot considering I havenât attended a game since 2013.
And DeAndre Hopkins can one-handed catch the winning TD in Oilers gear in Houston, and the Texans can all run and carry D-Hop off the field in a celebration of all things Houston. Whatâs not to ?
There is absolutely no way you can convince me that Amy Adams is not doing this to spite Houston. It was Houstonians who supported the Oilers, paid for tickets, bought merchandise etc. Not Nashvillians. She knows that there are still a lot of people in Houston who have emotional ties to the Oilers. She knows that it is an insult to those Houstonians that the Titans will be wearing the Oilers throwbacks.
Amy Adams would never work with Cal and the TexansâŠthat is delusional thinking.
Houston Oilers
Amy Adams is one of the only owners who pays for the flights and stays of former Oilers when they do special event weekends at the games. Warren Moon is quoted saying that most other owners only offer discount rates on flights and lodging.
If she is doing this spite the city of Houston, then sheâs spending a lot of money to do it. That doesnât make sense. Sounds like sheâs all in on recognizing former Oiler players.
Can we petition the Patriots or Steelers to move to Houston and change their name? Then we can claim all those Super Bowls and history as our own.
Bring those former players to NRG. Fans who have no connection to those players and players who have no connection to the city can come together in some awkward ceremony.
Itâs like dodger fans celebrating everything that the Brooklyn Dodgers did.
Sheâs taking care of the players when they go to Nashville and recognizing them there.
Sheâs spiting the City of Houston. Makes even more sense
âTennessee Titans legend, WARREN MOON!â
No thanks.
