Tennessee Oilers

Yeah, I have a Houston Oilers T-shirt that I wear sometimes when I work out and always get that reaction as well. Nothing from the Texans.

I think McClain has mentioned that he is still pretty close to Amy Adams Strunk. I think she still lives in Houston.

Actually the Kansas City Chiefs owned the ‘Texans’ name.

I wonder how we managed to get around that one.

Because they were the Dallas Texans.

True
but they own the ‘Texans’ name meaning another NFL team can’t take it without legally obtaining it.

Perhaps, they abandoned all rights to the name.

The Texans suck and will always suck.

Buy the Oilers and colors and bring them back to Houston. To hell with the Texans name.

I remember hearing that Bob McNair asked for permission from Lamar Hunt to use the name.

Mclain is full of crap saying we didn’t care about the name or colors back then. The Oilers leaving Houston still pisses off my old friends to this day

Its not the same team and its only the same franchise from a legal perspective. The legal name “Oilers” is just a never ending copyright issue. Its just a team owner wagging his corporate licensing at another city. I’ve never seen the Kansas City Chiefs wearing Dallas Texas gear. Maybe they did during that 60’s throwback phase. I just don’t remember. Where Houston lost their nads was when they continued to buy tickets after the move was approved. They should have left that place an empty shell.

I remember the ads for Air McNair but also remember it being pretty empty at the end.
I also remember a lot of black out games before the move. It meant something different back then, they wouldn’t show the game locally unless it was a sellout, i hated that rule as a kid

It’s been almost 30 years since the Oilers left. It’s time to move on. The Adams family is just bitter that the Titans organization is ranked 27th in most valuable NFL franchises, while the Texans are 11th.

They did once for the AFL’s 60th anniversary and ironically they were playing the Titans who were wearing there Oiler duds that day. It was pretty goofy to see the coaches with gear that said Houston Oilers and Dallas Texans for a game in Kansas City.

Lol

I thought that might have happened. What color were the Dallas Texans?

I think the old Texans colors were pretty similar to the current Chiefs color scheme.

I think you’re right. My grandfather, who was a huge Cowboys fan, had a plaque he received from the franchise for handing out little football coin purses at his business with the Dallas Texans logo on them. I seem to recall red and something else. He told me he got it many years before I was born.
