I’ve been saying for years that UH needs to add D1 women’s gymnastics and wrestling.
Both sports are sponsored by the Big 12, at least one of the two sports has MONSTER local talent and coaching possibilities (not to mention the fact that the second most decorated female gymnast in US history, Shannon Miller, is a UH alum, and the most decorated, a Houstonian), and both sports would have a D1 MONOPOLY in this state!

Yeah, if there is a way to get Simone on campus, you figure out a way to do it.

Most schools don’t view athletics as a profit center but marketing. Nearly all of them operate in the red yet keep going. There’s a reason for that.
Simone would pay off in other ways.
It’s why everyone is fighting for a spot in the P2
Future is grim for college athletics, unless private equity eventually steps in (which adds a new host of issues)
I agree though a big name like Biles should bring in outside revenue like NIL. That said, great athletes doesn’t always translate to great coaches. Carl Lewis is the exception
The marketing impact would be huge. Well worth the risk, imo. Even as a figure head.
I think having Carl Lewis here helps the case even more. I’m betting he would be willing to mentor her.

Gotta add a men’s sport as well for Title IX.
And it needs to be a sport that a) the Big 12 sponsors (which rules out men’s soccer), and which has minimal infrastructure requirements (only need to buy the wrestling mats and perhaps repurpose a room or two in Melcher to be the practice room).
Wrestling fits the bill.
Only other options would be men’s swimming/diving and men’s tennis.
I think men’s swimming would be better then. Maybe produce a future Michael Phelps.
Not necessarily with the recent roster adds (which aren’t required) to other sports. You can now make adjustments to make the numbers work.

Maybe with 20 more football scholarships and more in baseball as well, we can just add women’s gymnastics.

She was saying that while her bf was a Texan. He’s not anymore.
She said that in 2018 before her boyfriend (now husband) was a Texan. And they didn’t start dating until 2020.
They also recently built a huge house in Benders Landing (Spring) near her gym.
A previous women’s gymnastics champion also from Houston said she would coach a team at UH. Cant remember her name.
