Bama is an extreme analytics team, pretty much 3s and paint only. I’m not saying you have to go 100% that way, but we took too many mid-range shots. UH went 5/14 on them, Bama 0/1. Statistically, those are bad shots.

Okay Hill. This is one area i noticed as well. It has been a common issue each season. The players have passed up good looks from 3 only to take a tough mid range shot. I believe it is something that is coached. Certain guys, like Mylik, are better off taking closer shots but most of our guards shouldn’t but keep doing so.
I always said we don’t shoot enough 3s. a team that shoots a lot of 3s always has a great chance of beating us because of our aggressive doubles. Even though Auburn has an inside presence they shoot a lot of 3s as well. We need to consistently shoot over 20 3s a game at least. in our losses we shot less than 20. Also in our losses Auburn and Alabama are +21 combined from the 3pt line. In our wins, we are shooting over 20 3s a game.
Today’s game is heavy 3pt shooting and easy baskets at the rim. Of course you have to have the personnel and shooters but…
Shooting open 3s also allows for more rhythm in the offense and can help defensive positioning to stop fast breaks.
Good insight. I hope the staff will address this.
We don’t have consistent snipers outside Sharp and Cryer.
They were not giving our shooters any room on perimeter. Only option was to pic, no roll, and then shoot the 18 footer.
I will tread carefully here. But I’ve noticed this too. And maybe there’s logical reasons for some of the long twos. (Other than theres no excuse for not shooting more 3s. Agree with that 100%!)
The influx of talent you have coming in next year is critical IMO. Sharp has killed ISU before, but he seems a little limited offensively when I watch him play overall.
I’ve never been a big Cryer fan. IMHO, he’s more a 6th man off the bench to me, and really needs to just be a release valve catch and shoot sniper playing significant, but spotty and carefully chosen minutes.
Roberts is a Man man, but a all 3 guys are a little on the mechanical and deliberate side as well. Not a lot of fast twitch long explosive body control finishers in traffic. Is that fair?
Shead was such a draw for me last year. He drew neutral eyeballs with his game. And ive expected maybe “more” from the athletic Wilson. Im still getting to know the new guys so i will hold off of them til i see more. Unless u guys have any insight to share there.
Is that fair or just way off?
A lot of times our players had open shots and hesitated.
Seems fair to me…and I agree with your assessment. It seems to me that better point guard play (along with full recovery from past injuries) will be the key to UH’s improvement this season.
why do we pickup our dribble so much?
Seems like yesterday was a bit different because they kept putting the defender in their hip pocket and getting a good little jumper / runner, which LJ is pretty good at, tho he missed a few late iirc. I was happy to see them work that quite a bit.
ISU has their own verison of Cryer in Curtis Jones. In my biased opinion, Jones is a little better. But their games are almost identical.
We’re splitting hairs here, but I think Curtis Jones is a slightly better version of LJ Cryer than Cryer is.
Alabama was pressure the perimeter against us so we were stepping up and taking midrange shots. Bama had a great defensive strategy against us. Oats is a really good coach.
I dunno. Id rather be able to hit my share of jumpers than jack up some damn 3 and play that long range crap.
