RIP Jim Carola

Jim was a great Cougar. He was not only a wonderful announcer, he was one of the good guys. As the stadium announcer for the Oilers, he was always the consummate professional that added so much to the Astrodome voice. Growing up, he would always cover sports in the minute or so segments he had on KILT.
We lost a good man. Welcome to the Astrodome and today’s game…

I think I mostly remember him from AM radio. May his memory be a blessing.

Very sad news. People who are not long time Houstonians do not realize what an institution Jim was in radio and public address announcing. Jim was a long time radio announcer and news director at KILT-AM and was the PA announcer for the Houston Cougars and Houston Texans.

Thoughts and prayers for Jim, his family and friends.

PS: The fact that Jim was the Astrodome PA Announcer for the Oilers created a major league feel when he PA announced for UH.

Oh man. That stinks. It feels like I just lost part of my youth. I can still hear him in my head introducing the Oilers, specifically Robert Brazil’s “Doooom”. I was fortunate enough to meet him a few times. I used to work for a guy who was good friends with Jim. I absolutely went fan boy on him. LOL

This stings.
