I think UH and Zona could end up with 3 conference losses and tied.
I think Iowa St and Tech are tied for 3rd.
I think either Kansas State or Arizona would be my the conference tourney winner depending on our injury situation. If we’re healthy I think we’re the favorite.
Not sure how to extrapolate a champ in the regular season tie. I know Zona has the edge vs Top 25.
NCAA Tourney
UH 2/3 seed
Zona 5 seed
Tech 5 seed
ISU 6 seed
I’m not good at fleshing this all out. These are just hunches
i’m good with the coogs winning the conf and tourney unless they get tech in the tourney. if tech can win the next coog game and meet in the tourney, they will be hyped to take the coogs down 3 times and off a possible one seed.
I’m worried about Tech and Zona in the regular season. Tech won’t shoot 40% from the 3-line against us three straight games. And they have to do that to win. And I don’t think we will get a 1-seed if we lose against either Tech, ISU, or Kansas. If we lose to Zona and win out I think its doable.
Trivia: Zona had 16 more rebounds than Tech yesterday.
We win the conference again and solidify our standing as top dog in the Big 12.
With all of the games in a few days we may just try to win a couple of conference tourney games and then rest players after that… depends on how healthy we’re looking come conference tourney time.
I think if you query all the basketball minds + Vegas we’re the favorite on all counts. I don’t think Sampson takes his foot off the accelerator in the conference race or conference tourney. Its just not in his nature. He’ll peak us at the right time. It’s injuries and refs that we gotta be ready for.
Having watched games this year I can see there’s a bias in officiating.
“We’re not gonna let these hoodlums from Houston go out and mug these fine Midwestern institutions with impunity.”
Sampson has said in the past he could care less about NCAA Tournament seedings. Each game is an individual matchup between teams’ strengths and weaknesses. It is why you have upsets. Being seeded #13 has the most upsets.
Predicting the future is not what I do best. I see us likely losing to Arizona and Tech. In which case we have to rely on someone else beating each of them to be repeat champions. On the other hand, we are just as likely to win them both. So who knows?
I think both Arizona and Houston have five games remaining they could lose. Texas Tech has three, maybe four. Tech definitely has the easiest schedule. Of course upsets can happen, but looking at our schedule if we don’t beat Baylor Monday we probably aren’t winning the conference, at least not outright. Somehow I think two teams are going to share the top spot, but it’s going to be a wild finish.
Agree on the fading part. After last year’s game at the Phogg I created a paradigm in my mind that they’re unbeatable there. They did too. I think when we beat them we affected their psychology. Did you see how they all started blaming one another. Students blamed coaches. Coaches blaming students. Sampson collapsed their image of invincibility in Lawrence. I think it jacked their minds up badly.
There’s no way KSU should have beaten them with those two bigs playing the way they did. One team playing free and easy. The other playing against themselves.
