I guess he didn’t bother reading the NCAA recruiting policies.
According to the NCAA Committee on Infractions panel’s decision, Hardaway told members of the enforcement staff “that he believed he ‘could visit any student-athlete at any time.’” Hardaway later told the enforcement he would not have visited the recruit when he did had he known it would result in a violation.

I’m all for bringing the hammer down on Memphis for any reason or no reason at all. But in the age of portal meddling and completely unregulated NIL, who gives a flying crap if a coach visited a player in his home or at his school, or during the spring or the fall? I swear the NCAA literally cannot see the forest for the trees.

A g5 -level coach is punished for recruiting violations when 60% of the NCAA are buying players in plain sight.

Penny is basically just a recruiting coordinator. Not like he does much coaching in practice/games anyways lol

Didn’t some people say all Guy Lewis did was roll the ball out on the floor? Not saying Penny is necessarily a good coach but the rumor and innuendo about how bad coaches are should always be looked at skeptically.

Yeah there were some idiots who said that about Guy, mostly when he first started recruiting blacks.
And those who are the same people who refused to vote him into the HOF for way too many years.

I quit trying to view the article after 5 minutes of commercial messages.
Talked to a few Memphis fans leaving the last game there and all were claiming Penny was a great coach . . . . .
Lol it’s just a little annoying when people speak on things they don’t know. Just because you don’t like Memphis doesn’t mean that Hardaway isn’t coaching.

I’m not a Penny fan. But I think it reeks to high Heaven that p5 schools are throwing millions and McClaren racing cars at portal players under the guise of NIL collectives and the NCAA is using resources to bruise a school like Memphis.i know they’re dirty too, but this whole system in screwed up.
I’m waiting for some clown-a— billionaire to offer a brothel in Amsterdam for a two-year commitment. My guess it’ll be UT or USC.
