Is anyone surprised? You knew this would come sooner or later.
I blame boosters and fans.
NIL should never have been abused as pay for play. If it was used as intended for marketing and actual likeness use, then it would have never gotten this far. Players are just ignorant in terms of what is actual work and earning your NIL value.
Fans and boosters paying into collectives are at fault.
He didn’t even play that good last year, crazy he’s holding out
I’m about this close to saying goodbye to college football. Like most things, money is going to ruin it.
He wants to be the highest paid player in CFB, and someone will probably make him that.
I did see a post on X. First thought was that he probably was out of town and missed his flight. Or had a family emergency.
Never thought it was about him “holding out” for a new NIL deal.
It’s stuff like this that contributed to Saban retiring. Same can probably said for the Virginia basketball coach.
In the words of Dana: “I can’t coach this sh*t!!”
I bet he’s got terrible people in his ear l. He averaged 200 passing yards per game under Josh Heupel last year
He is the poster child of dink & dunk
In what world does that qualify you for a raise lol
Did money just get into college football
A report came out yesterday from On3 saying he was in a possible dispute. The daddy then gets on twitter claiming fake news and calls the reporter a b*itch, which causes the entire Vol fanbase to attack the reporter. Less than 24 hours later the kid isn’t at practice all but confirming the report. That family stinks, this sport stinks.
Not to this crazy level. Of course, there was cheating but there was an illusion of enforcement with the NCAA keystone cops.
Not the same thing today. The worse thing? It’s going to get worse.
Well, IMO this guy is not that good……
The coach should tell him not let the door hit him….
It’s freakin’ Tennessee….they probably have some 4 and 5 stars waiting in the wings.
Unless some type of regulation is introduced.
This “playoff era” is still infinitely better than the “BCS era”
I don’t understand all the animosity towards this young man. How could you possibly know what he is going through? I bet no one on coogsfans was ever asked to just try and get by on $2.4 mil a year at age 20.
I’m on board with all of you on how bad this looks. I would be pizzed if my dollars went to him.
And it will be because this time it’s an SEC blue blood being affected. Call 911!!!
Signed contracts or it will totally destroy college.
In those contracts make sure players must play in bowl games.
Why blame him?
He plays football. By nature he is one play away from being a quadriplegic. You think that I am going to the extreme? Ask anyone that has played football. Ask retired players how they feel about CTE.
I do not blame him at all. This system is allowing him to get every penny he can get. Since the system is allowing it why not asking for it? You get the difference? The ncaa created this not the other way around.
You still do not agree with it? Let me ask you.
Does the minor leagues exist?
Does the NBA development league exist?
Does the NFL minor league exist?
You know the answers so why is it that the nfl has not already done an nfl minor league? Because they don’t want to spend a penny and have the ncaa p4’s for it.
The ncaa is also against an nfl minor league because it generates so much money.
There should not be a “ceiling” at how much an athlete can get. NIL donors want to pay? Let them pay. It is now official when it was under the table for decades.
What makes a great player is his/her willingness to dedicate themselves. The money does not change the inner core of an athlete. Sure it can help but pure grit and a 100% commitment makes you special.
NIL donors can only blame themselves. You give money to one player? It is on you. This is where you have a fine line with the so called superstars and a Jerry Rice, Joe Montana or Tom Brady types of players. Their dedication to excellence is what made them the stars they are.
I am in agreement, I’ve been trending that way for a while now.
Signed contracts won’t save collegiate sports, it’s way over the cliff already.
You may be right but something needs to be done to prevent poaching of players to stop the insanity
