One in five Americans do not think Hitler was all bad: Poll

Probably a lot of them believe poking thereselves in their eyes is good for them to, I’m sure.

1/4 of Americans were pro Hitler during the war. We’re more knowledgeable now but that’s still crazy.

I suppose most are on college campuses

So it means 1 in 5 persons on this board thinks Hitler was an ok guy…he did some good things .

It’s the Marge Schott Theory of Relativity.

Look at it like this - German POW who believed in those ideas were allowed to relocate to the US and they blended in without any issues - that ideal has been in play for quite some time

I believe the largest estimate number of Nazi’s that were allowed to immigrate was 10,000. Assuming that is correct (as some reports have it much smaller), that is one heck of a growth from 10,000 after WWII to 1/5 of around 330 Million people.

Would you say a good portion?

Only 1 in 5? They mean only 1 in 5 will admit to it.

No. I think there’s a better chance that more of those are not college educated. But it’s more likely that this reflects a representative cross-section.

The way the question was posed made it easy to rationalize the answer, especially given the context and timing.

So a man who was and is directly responsible for estimated 55 million human deaths is just your lovable adorable dictator next door who really meant no harm in the world he just wanted “lebensraum” for the German people. Was willing to commit mass murder to do so. I get it.

1077 adults is not a great sample size to extrapolate that to 330 million Anericans…

And why do we trust Yougov polling…?

I’ve never heard of them… have y’all?

That’s a pretty solid sample size. And yes, they are a pretty well known pollster.

Many statisticians agree that a minimum sample size of 100 is needed for meaningful results. If the population is smaller than 100, it’s best to survey everyone. The maximum sample size is usually 10% of the population, but no more than 1,000.

A 3.9% margin of error with more than 1,000 polled makes this survey more than questionable. It should be at minimum in the 3% range. Unfortunately for far too long history has been ignored in schools. If this survey is true it is an indictment of our school system. We either teach history “all the way” or we get uneducated folks. That’s the power of education. 0.1% is way too much. 20% is an aberration.
