There are three main rules we will run this site with:

No politics.
Don’t be a jerk.
Don’t steal content.

This is a UH forum for UH fans to discuss UH sports. Off-topic threads are perfectly fine, but politics and political discussions cannot happen. There are so few places to discuss the Cougars, and we cannot ruin this one - which turned 25 years old this fall - with politics again.

Here’s how it’s going to go. Starting at 9 a.m. on 11/6/24, banned from discussion by name or by inference:

Any politician or candidate - local, state, federal
Republicans
Democrats
BLM
MAGA
Protests
ANTIFA
Abortion
Climate change
Immigration/the border
Transgender issues
Confederate flag
Statues
Colin Kaepernick
Any left-wing cause
Any right-wing cause
Any other stupid thing that is or intends to talk politics

Calling anyone a moron or stupid or anything similar will be treated in the same way.

Anyone not following our original 3 rules (don’t be a jerk, don’t steal content, no politics) or the new guidelines listed above:

First offense: 72 hours suspended
Second: Banned

By using CoogFans, you agree that the publisher has the right to delete your posts or blacklist you or any other user at any time if they believe that action is in the best interest of the site and the reason need not be disclosed.

*CoogFans users agree that the publisher has the right to enforce these standards, including deletion of posts, blacklisting/banning users, or removing access.

No one is immune to the rules - not my friends, not guys that have been on Den/Fans/Cullen/GoCoogs for 20+ years, not the left or the right.
I’m asking you to thread a needle on some things, and I would appreciate your help. Moderators will have the power to suspend you if you go over the line.

If you see something you believe is not allowed, please use the flagging feature. All flags are private and no one knows that you used it.

CoogFans sometimes has an unfair reputation as being a cesspool. I don’t believe that’s true. One of the biggest ways to be different from toxic message boards is to disallow politics and people being jerks.

Feel free to DM me to discuss this, but these rules aren’t changing.

lol so soft. nothing wrong with having a politics thread and if it gets out of hand then MAYBE step in. no one is forcing anyone to participate in the thread. it’s the internet guys relax

I like the rules. As one of the more modulated voices on here I think we can despise one another and still chat amicably about the Coogs.

I understand the difficulty, but it’s really a shame.

When I first started visiting message boards sometime in the early 2000s, this one was a place where people debated and discussed issues while staying pretty civil, much unlike other sites. Maybe it was because there were so few of us and most probably met up at pregame tailgates.

I guess this community is just tracking what’s happened across the board, where people have reverted to anonymous potshots, zingers and insults instead of actually engaging. We still manage to have some good discussions until a few people can’t help themselves and start acting like this is junior high fight club.

This is why we can’t have nice things.
